One day, TV salesman Spike convinces Roy to buy a satellite dish offering 666 channels. The new addition to Roy's home entertainment system sucks him and Helen into Hellvision, a realm run by Spike, who is an emissary of Satan. For 24 hours, the couple must survive devilish parodies of TV programs if they want to return to reality alive.

THE WOMAN IN BLACK (1989)

For decade's this version of Women of black was near on impossible to get ahold of. I spend years trying to track down a copy myself. To relive a film that I shook me to core by as a child.
Sketchy VHS rip uploaded to YouTube was the best you had. It's woefully unknown by many people. Which is criminal in my eyes.

It received a wonderful remaster a couple of years ago that includes a great commentary from Mark Gatiss, Kim Newman and Andy Nyman.

Still very much unknown and under appreciated.
Why I've been very keen to show it to the lovely people of Leeds.

Images from original VHS cover, bootleg dvd cover and finally from of the remastered version.

So Join us for our Yuletide screening of this often forgotten British horror gem and adaptation of Susan Hills classic gothic ghost story, The Woman In Black.

From director Herbert Wise (I’Claudius, Rumpole of the Bailey) and writer Nigel Kneale (The Stone Tape, The Quatermass Experiment, Halloween 3)

When a friendless old widow dies in the market town of Crythin Gifford, a young solicitor is sent in to settle her estate. Following cryptic warnings from the locals regarding the terrifying history of the old woman's house, he very soon begins to see visions of a menacing woman in black.

Atmospherically directed by BAFTA-nominated Herbert Wise and starring Adrian Rawlins as the unfortunate young solicitor alongside Pauline Moran as the terrifying revenant, this unsettling drama remains a high-water mark for ghost story adaptations and still retains a master class on building up fear with just atmosphere and skilful story telling.

Aired Christmas Eve 1989 carrying on the long tradition of ghost storys been shared around the festive season.

Working with my comrades we are bringing you a screening of the inspiring documentary film - The Organize.
Followed by Wade himself joining us via video call and the chance to hear from members of your local Acorn Union here in Leeds.

Wednesday 10th of September - 7PM
Cardigan Arms
For tickets the link is available at the top of our profile.

The Organizer, follows how Wade Rathke, a former anti-war and welfare rights organizer founded the organization in Little Rock in 1970 and over the next decades shepherded its growth into a national political powerhouse for the poor. His entrepreneurial vision helped build ACORN but internal conflict and external pressures would lead to its tragic downfall.

Undeterred, Rathke is now building new organizations around the world and trying to rebuild at home.

Shot across four continents and with a wealth of archives and interviews with ACORN organizers and community leaders, along with figures like Noam Chomsky and Marshall Ganz, THE ORGANIZER is a film about people who have dedicated their lives to the often hidden, usually messy and always controversial job of building power for the powerless.

Winner of five 'Best Documentary' film festival awards.
