What a lovely surprise! ✨ We’ve been nominated for a BBC Merseyside Make A Difference Award 💜

The nomination is anonymous, so a huge thank you to whoever put our name forward, we’re genuinely so happy to be considered. Shortlisting takes place over the summer 🤞

Definitely the second best anonymous gift we’ve had this week...

We're all still floating in the air after last night's announcement. This is how it went.

Together, we did it!

All of the hard work and donations have paid off as we smashed the fundraising total! More than 2,500 of you gave to the campaign with a further 16,000 buying tickets, popcorn and merchandise. Thank you to all of you!

£532,884 RAISED!

The last few days has seen a big plot twist too!

Last week, a mystery donor stepped forward and has bought the building outright. They have given Woolton Cinema CIC a 101-year lease at a peppercorn rent of £19.27 per year.

What does that mean? Well, it means that Woolton Picture House will be a community led cinema until it’s 200th birthday in 2127!

It also means the money that we have raised, £532,000, can now all be used to refurbish this beautiful building. We are currently drawing up plans but they will include a new roof with solar panels, full disabled access, new toilets, a stage area at the front...

We are going to need to raise some more to make it happen. Thanks to the long lease, we can apply for funding from various places like the National Lottery, Arts Council England and the British Film Institute.

Everything will be done with a view to keeping the look and feel of the Picture House, we’re actually going to reveal some more of the original 1920s features that have been covered up over the years.

Over the summer we’ll be holding some public consultation events to talk about plans and see what you want to happen to this place. We’ll email you about that when it happens.

So for now? Well, for now we’re going to celebrate! We hope you will too.

Thank you to everyone who has given their time, their skills and their money to this campaign. It took a village to raise a Picture House. This village.

Thank you all.

We all got a bit emotional last night after Cinema Paradiso, our final fundraising screening. It was great to see our projectionist, Dave get a well deserved round of applause. He has worked his magic at every screening and we couldn't have done it without him.

OK gang, our nine month fundraising campaign to get Woolton Picture House into a position where it is being run by the local community ends next Friday. We need to raise £450,000 by 8 May and it is looking very promising as we hit the last seven days.

It's been amazing to see so many people rally round, giving their time, skills and donations to keep this beautiful building open. It's been a lot of fun too! We hope you've all enjoyed it.

Nearly there...
