Meet the VFX supivisor and social media manager, Ned Colin.

"I have been lucky enough in my professional life to create art and photography around the stories and experiences of others and it’s that storytelling I have always had a deep love for. For me, film and filmmaking is a powerful way to connect and engage with people and places otherwise abstracted by our own lived experiences. It is that kind of connection to others that grounds us, deepens our understanding of the world we share, and hopefully broadens our awareness of the spaces we occupy in our own lives.

Knowing even part of the Freedom Theatre’s story and having already seen the work done so far on this documentary, I have seen how it brings a spotlight to a place and people who are often abstracted by what we see and read from abroad. Introducing our incredible producer Suze Harb!

Suze is an Irish/Palestinian producer who comes from an interdisciplinary background in curation, community engagement and film/documentary. Based in London, she recently completed her MSc in International Development and Globalisation at The School of Oriental and African Studies (UoL).

We want to introduce everybody to FREEDOM THEATRE and creator of Bathtub Films; Rishi Pelham.

Rishi is a theatre and film director, writer, producer, musician and cinematographer. Graduated in Literature from Lycée Français de Jérusalem (2012) and drama and screen studies from University of Manchester (2016). Off the back of his first feature, Hilda (2019), he is now working on a series of film and documentary projects - one of which being Freedom Theatre.

""The film will aim to celebrate the performances, the music and life breathing out of Jenin. The camera will sit and live with the residents of this village day-by-day, improvising alongside and exploring how art can be the strongest form of resistance."" - Rishi

The Freedom Theatre has an enduring impact on its surrounding community and is internationally renowned for its work. The film is a crucial opportunity to document the methods in which artistic resistance is incorporated into the work produced there, and the measures Israel takes in order to prevent creativity, in any form, from blossoming in Palestine.

Rehearsals at the Freedom Theatre

The Freedom Theatre is a space that connects young people in Jenin to theatre and aims to give them tools for living a life under occupation. Over the last two years, our small local and internationally based crew have been working to document life in Jenin refugee camp. The documentary delves into the captivating story of the work produced by the children of the theatre, shedding light on the artistic resistance in Jenin refugee camp, showcasing the lives of the residents, and exploring the directors' use of art therapy within the theatre.

Last night Jenin was subject to another attack following months of IDF raids that have targeted the camp. During this most recent attack, people who had visited The Freedom Theatre to attend a performance were trapped inside as the violence took place.
