✨ Meet the judges for the inaugural London Breeze Film Festival 19 - 25 Young Filmmaker Award! ✨

We’re incredibly excited to introduce the industry professionals who’ll be watching, discussing and selecting this year’s winning films. With experience spanning writing, directing, and producing, our panel brings an exceptional breadth of knowledge to this brand new award.

🎬 Louisa Connolly-Burnham
Award-winning writer, director and actor, Louisa won the 2024 London Breeze Fiction Short Award with Sister Wives, which went on to receive a BAFTA and Academy Award longlist. Now developing the short into a feature, she’ll bring invaluable creative insight and feedback to our young filmmakers.

🎬 Chantal Rickards OBE
Former CEO of BAFTA Los Angeles and an accomplished British television executive, Chantal has spent decades championing excellence across film and television. Her experience recognising exceptional storytelling and emerging talent makes her a fantastic addition to our panel.

🎬 Damian Keogh
Former Head of Drama at BBC Worldwide, Damian went on to found The Story Collective and The Story Works Studios in Mortlake. Most recently, he was Executive Producer on Disney+’s A Thousand Blows. We’re incredibly fortunate to have his wealth of industry knowledge on this year’s panel.

Calling women documentary filmmakers! Our annual pitching competition launches today. This year we are looking for female-led short documentary proposals. The call-out is over on our friends, My SMASH Media’s excellent platform where you can build your pitching deck - link in bio.

The competition is being run in partnership with Girls on Tops who will chair a panel of industry experts for the live event on 25th October at The Garden Cinema.

There are lots of prizes to be competed for including My SMASH Media Pro Membership, free kit hire and mentoring from an established documentary filmmaker - more tba.

London Breeze is thrilled to be partnering with dogwoof and The Cinema in the Power Station for the London premiere of LOMU Dir. Gavin FitzGerald
- an intimate and heartfelt portrait of Jonah Lomu, the most adored son of the Pacific, a legendary All Black, who transcended the game with his immense power and unstoppable determination.

From the streets of South Auckland to the world’s biggest rugby stages, this brand new feature documentary traces the extraordinary rise, global impact and private struggles of Jonah Lomu - a Tongan New Zealander who transformed rugby forever, while carrying the weight of culture, faith and expectation few ever truly saw. Through intimate interviews with family and coaches, alongside archival footage of Jonah himself - including never-before-seen family video - the film reveals the personal cost of meteoric success.

Join us and special guests, including some of his international opponents, for this preview screening. Our executive director will be hosting Gavin FitzGerald for the Q&A and as ever with a London Breeze screening, there will be lots of extra goodies and surprises in store.

A huge thank you to our Media Partners Little White Lies for supporting our screening of Surviving Earth last night ActOne Cinema & Café. As audiences arrived, they had the chance to browse complimentary copies of the magazine. We believe that film culture extends beyond the screen itself - from thoughtful journalism and criticism to conversations in cinema foyers to help build the communities that make independent film so special.

COMMUNITY AS A SUPERPOWER: We’ve seen filmmakers arrive at London Breeze knowing nobody and leave with collaborators. We’ve seen volunteers become programmers, students become filmmakers, and winning directors return as mentors and jury members. None of this appears in our marketing, but it may be the most important thing we do.

The Breeze team met up with two of our alumni filmmakers from last year’s festival to see their short films playing on big outdoor screens as part of our new media partners, C-Screens’ summer of live sports broadcasting.

In between showing the World Cup, Wimbledon and F1 and more, you can watch two fantastic short films plus our new trailer in public spaces and Power League sites around the UK all summer.

Look out for Stefan Pollak’s documentary ALT JAY. The film focuses on twenty year old Jay Southern and his love of sport, explored through his relationship with his identical twin brother Matthew. Through Jay’s perseverance and the support of his family and trainer, having multiple disabilities has not stopped Jay from being involved in the sport of CrossFit and belonging to a community. The film shows Jay’s determination to break down barriers and bring about change for deaf and disabled people in sport and fitness.

Also screening is Molly Hill’s gorgeous animation, ‘First Flight: The Sky’s The Limit’ - Chirpy, a bright blue bird in a nest of grey siblings, struggles to master flight. While the others soar with ease, his wobbly, crash-prone attempts lead to comic chaos and heartfelt lessons. Through inventions, leaps, and stumbles, First Flight celebrates resilience, humour, and the messy magic of finding your wings.

We met Stefan, Molly and Molly’s 12 week old puppy, Willow, for a photo call outside Television Centre in White City on a beautiful day last week. Thanks to Andy Gulland for his terrific photos. Enjoy the pics and tag us if you spot these screenings wherever you are over the summer!
