Synopsis: As thousands of migrants continue to cross the English Channel in small boats, Small Boats: The Border Conundrum is a documentary that investigates the failures of UK and French border policies, exposing the political tensions and humanitarian stakes behind one of Europe’s most contentious migration crises.

Dr. Anne Daguerre is Reader in Social Justice at the University of Brighton and Principal Investigator of the research project Small Boats: The Border Conundrum. She serves as producer and interviewer for the 40-minute documentary, supported by the University of Brighton, which explores the UK-France border tensions through the lens of small boat crossings.

A specialist in welfare reform, labour market policies, and migration governance, Anne brings scholarly depth and human insight to a polarising issue. She has held research fellowships and visiting appointments in the US and France, and her work has been funded by the British Academy, the ESRC, and the Fulbright Commission.

Nick Lazar is a filmmaker, screenwriter, director, and actor with a taste for stories that provoke and connect. He is the director, videographer, editor and second producer of Small Boats: The Border Conundrum. He holds two MAs – one in Filmmaking from the University of Sussex, and one in Screenwriting from Birkbeck, University of London – both earned with distinction. He trained as an actor at the Academy of Creative Training, where he now teaches screen acting. Nick has made around twenty short films and runs Vivify, his video production and web business, which has been creating sharp, story-driven content since 2012.
