The Film Night

The Film Night A Pop-Up Cinema party, coming soon to Manchester! Exciting! We're very excited to present SECRETARY, one of our favourite films. Edward Grey. Hijinks ensue.

The Film Night will screen cult films in unusual (yet fitting!) locations, followed by a party recreating the era and genre of the film. THE FILM NIGHT #2
FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS at CASINO 235 followed by a PSYCHEDELIC GONZO PARTY

Following January's Secretary / Mad Men office bash, The Film Night returns with something completely different. Presenting FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS, Terry

Gilliam's riotous adaptation of Hunter S Thompson's ode to the acid era. The story follows Thompson, the father of 'Gonzo journalism' (a bug-eyed tour de force from Johnny Depp) and his attorney Dr Gonzo (Benicio del Toro) as they descend on Las Vegas to chase the American Dream through an LSD-fuelled haze. Watch out for cameos from Cameron Diaz, Tobey Maguire, Christina Ricci, Verne Troyer and Flea (plus the real Thompson himself) and Gilliam's brilliantly surreal trademark visuals. Few films have made terrifying, potentially lethal quantities of mind-altering substances look quite so fun. Battle your way through Bat Country to Casino 235's event space (trippily transformed into Las Vegas for the night) for a psychedelic party after the film, featuring Stop Making Sense DJs playing alt-pop oddities til 2am. Or if you're feeling flush, take a flutter at blackjack or roulette on the main casino floor!

7.30 Friday 23rd March 2012
Casino 235, Great Northern, Deansgate (entrance on Watson Street)

THE FILM NIGHT #1
SECRETARY in an OFFICE SPACE followed by a MAD MEN-STYLE OFFICE PARTY! A beautiful (if twisted) love story twixt a sadist and a masochist- think Romeo and Juliet with extra spanking. Maggie Gyllenhaal was nominated for a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Lee Holloway, a shy, disturbed young women who gets her first job as a secretary, and finds her duties to differ somewhat from the norm. James Spader is on classic creepy-yet-strangely-attractive form (pretty much his default setting) as her boss, Mr E. When the credits come up head over to Kraak Gallery (an office-turned-venue space behind Hula Bar) for a MAD MEN themed office party. Do the jitterbug to 60s pop and soul, sample some 60s cocktails and vodka jelly and play Pin The Beehive On Joan! Friday 27th January 2012. Screening: 7.30, An Office Space In The Northern Quarter,
Party: 10.00-02.00, Kraak Gallery, 11 Stevenson Square, Northern Quarter
