This is the 2nd time in a week we’ve had a window put in causing over £2k of damage and more importantly a lot of sadness and trauma to the team working at CPX. Did GMP even bother to come out? Nope. If this carries on we won’t be able to operate out of this space, we can’t afford it and we certainly can’t let our team work in these conditions. What a sad state of affairs for this city in an area that is being redeveloped with money the existing businesses get no support and nothing for the business rates we pay. Dirty unsafe streets where youths can commit crime at will. Is this the city Andy Burnham leaves behind?

Leaning all the way into the bad taste accusations of melodrama, (what else would you expect from the Pope of Trash?) filth maestro John Waters took advantage of his biggest budget yet to allow his muse Divine to sink his teeth into a role unlike any he had played before: Baltimore housewife Francine Fishpaw, a heroine worthy of a Douglas Sirk melodrama.

Blessed with a keen sense of smell and cursed with a philandering pornographer husband, a parasitic mother, and a pair of delinquent children, the long-suffering Francine turns to the bottle as her life falls apart—until deliverance appears in the form of a hunk named Todd Tomorrow (vintage heartthrob Tab Hunter).

On your marks... get set...and go full-throttle (for just £5!) as we revisit the Wachowskis' kaleidoscopic, eye-popping adaptation of the beloved manga racing series.

Born to race cars, Speed Racer is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized – the legendary Rex Racer, whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill.

Speed is loyal to the family racing business, led by his father, Pops Racer, the designer of Speed’s thundering Mach 5. A young neurosurgeon (played by Gene Wilder in one of cinema’s greatest comedic performances of all time) inherits the castle of his grandfather, the famous Dr. Victor von Frankenstein. In the castle he finds a funny hunchback, a pretty lab assistant and the elderly housekeeper. Young Frankenstein believes that the work of his grandfather was delusional, but when he discovers the book where the mad doctor described his reanimation experiment, he suddenly changes his mind.

Returning to the big screen for it's 10th Anniversary!

Raised on hip-hop and foster care, defiant city kid Ricky gets a fresh start in the New Zealand countryside. He quickly finds himself at home with his new foster family: the loving Aunt Bella, the cantankerous Uncle Hec, and dog Tupac. When a tragedy strikes that threatens to ship Ricky to another home, both he and Hec go on the run in the bush. As a national manhunt ensues, the newly branded outlaws must face their options: go out in a blaze of glory or overcome their differences and survive as a family.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople is a big-hearted picture full of small, understated moments of magic. Directed by Taika Waititi (co-director of the vampire mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows) the film focuses on the emotional thrust of a mismatched buddy movie.

Do Not Expect Too Much From The End of the World (2023) follows Angela, a production coordinator in Bucharest who spends much of her day driving round the city interviewing injured employees of a multinational corporation for a ‘Safety at Work’ video. Intercut with the Andrew Tate-style TikToks Angela makes to blow off steam on her long days, as well as footage from a 1981 film about a female taxi driver in the Romanian capital, a complex interrogation of the interaction between labour, gender and bodily danger emerges. Radu Jude’s darkly comic exploration of exploitation at work in the twenty-first century flits between Zoom screen, phone camera and archival footage, providing an at times uncomfortable but always compelling perspective on our present moment.

This is the first collaborative screening between Cultplex and Partisan Cinema. Founded in 2025 through a generous bursary from Cinema for All, Partisan Cinema is a co-operatively run screenings group based in Ancoats, with a focus on political, international and independent films. We are part of Partisan Collective, a space for community-led DIY and cultural projects. Anyone can become a member and have a say in what we run: check out our website for more details. After several successful screenings at our base in Bridge 5 Mill since November 2025, we are excited to branch out and collaborate with other screening groups and cinemas in the region.

The screening will begin with a brief introduction to the film and to Partisan Cinema from some of our members. Please feel free to chat to one of us before or after the film about becoming a Partisan member - we’d love to hear from you!

Jamie Babbit's audacious feature debut But I'm a Cheerleader has earned its place as a bona fide LGBTQ+ cult classic. Initially dismissed by critics upon its release in 1999, the film has since been rightfully celebrated for its pioneering le***an representation, razor-sharp satire, and gleeful dismantling of gender stereotypes and conversion therapy.

Set in the candy-coloured world of True Directions, a conversion camp for supposedly wayward teens, the film follows all-American cheerleader Megan Bloomfield (Natasha Lyonne), whose conservative parents become convinced she's a le***an. What follows is a brilliantly camp and unexpectedly heartfelt coming-of-age story, as Megan navigates the absurdities of the camp's five-step programme and finds an unexpected connection with the rebellious Graham (Clea DuVall).

At a time when q***r stories rarely occupied centre stage in mainstream cinema, But I'm a Cheerleader offered something refreshingly different: a proudly q***r romantic comedy that refused to trade humour for politics, or politics for humour. With its vibrant visual style, unforgettable performances, and enduring wit, Babbit's film helped expand the possibilities of LGBTQ+ representation on screen and remains as funny, defiant, and relevant today as ever.
