Our showing on the 10th November is Force Majeure.
Force Majeure is a moral maze of a film that asks: in a moment of extreme danger, how would you behave?
When a 'controlled avalanche' at an Alpine ski resort seems to get scarily out of control, handsome, successful businessman Tomas turns and runs without thought for his wife and kids. Then he tries to save face by denying it.
Now the family itself is in danger of destruction, but is it quite as straightforward as it seems?

After a short summer break we are back on the 8th September with Far From Heaven.
Far from Heaven is a gorgeous melodrama set in 50s America, about repressed desire and social prejudice. Cathy and Frank are the perfect couple, successful and well-off, but their happiness is a façade: neither can follow their heart. It's brilliantly-played by a cast led by Julianne Moore and Dennis Quaid, thought-provoking, and in the end very moving.

On Tuesday, 9th June, we will be showing Sunset Boulevard ( Okay, the film's real name is Sunset Blvd., as on the road sign). It is where Hollywood royalty lives, and here's the mansion of Norma Desmond, a faded superstar of the silent screen. Movie roles long since dried up for her, so she's spent years writing a comeback vehicle for herself. When she meets Joe Gillis, a hack screenwriter down on his luck, she hires him to improve her script. And maybe for something more...
The casting is perfect (especially Gloria Swanson, herself a faded star, as the monstrously entitled Norma); the comedy is pitch black (by Billy Wilder, later of Some like it hot); the plot is so audacious you'll gasp. Ever seen a movie narrated by a co**se? Absolutely unique, and one of the very greatest.

Ticket price includes w**e or soft drink. Doors open 7pm, film shows from 7.30pm.

When you book via website or in advance at our box office, you will be sent a receipt which serves as your 'ticket'. When you attend the film, show your receipt - either as a printout, or on a mobile device.

Some tickets are also available in the Iffley Village Shop. Please note, if making a special journey to the shop you are advised to phone first (01865 748288), and it’s cash only.

Please note that after 5pm on the day of the showing, you will only be able to buy a ticket on the door.

Our film for May is a powerful drama about adoption, and a young man's need to find his birth family and understand his roots – in India.
Lion is intelligent, avoids sentimental clichés,
and packs a devastating punch, with superb performances from Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman, and the astonishing Sunny Parwar as the five-year-old Indian child living hand-to-mouth on the streets of Kolkata.
