Hard to believe that 9 years ago (2013) I started calls to the council to save the future of the Regent Cinema, and tonight I attended the VIP opening event ahead of its doors opening tomorrow to the public to the new Regent Cinema.

It may be a brand new building, but as soon as you walk through the doors, it feels like the Regent Cinema... I don't know if it's because it's on the original seaside site, or it's just the magic of the Regent, but I can't wait to take my children on Saturday and for them to remember the feeling of walking through those brand new doors to tell their kids in years and years to come πŸ’ž πŸŽ₯

Feeling proud, feeling nostalgic and just so so happy.

Don't ever let anyone tell you something is impossible! Because anything is possible!

Been to see inside our absolutely stunning new cinema this morning with Coatham Councillor Neil Baldwin.

His background help has been critical in keeping the campaign to Save the Regent Cinema on track with the council and ultimately its success.

I'm so excited for the new operator to get the keys and open it's doors in Summer for you all to see and use.

I won't share pictures as they won't do it the justice it deserves.

But I personally want to thank Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council for delivering on your promise back in 2019. To BAM Construction and all the designers involved.....You have truly done Redcar proud. πŸ‘

And most of all to Ben Houchen - Tees Valley Mayor at Tees Valley Combined Authority for providing the funding on making this happen.

It's truly a new era of the legacy of our precious seaside Regent Cinema.

πŸŽ‰THE REGENT IS SAVED!!!!!πŸŽ‰

I've literally just left the council offices from a meeting where the council have told us that they are fully supporting saving the Regent Cinema and will no longer be looking at a multi plex on the coatham site!!!!

THE REGENT CINEMA IS SAVED!!!

Funding for the cinema is coming from a Β£30million pot of funding from the Tees Valley Combined Authority.

There's going to be a press release in tonight's Gazette online.... But I couldn't wait to share the news!!

Now they will look at buildings planning, architecture, etc etc.... And the feasibility going forward... But they expect to see the opening of the new Regent Cinema mid 2021.

A huge thanks to Councillor Neil Baldwin for being 100% in support of this since the day I set up this campaign in 2014 and ensuring every single detail was looked at by the council leader.

A huge thanks to Sue Jeffreys for listening to the people and what they want.

AND TO THE PEOPLE OF THE MIGHTY REDCAR!! ! IT'S YOUR PASSION THAT HAS CONVINCED THE COUNCIL TO DO THIS!

and the next time you think something can't be done...... Make sure you give it your best before you give up!!!

Here's to The future of the Regent Cinema!!

So happy!!! πŸ˜€πŸ‘

Today is a sad day for myself, and many people in Redcar.

Our beloved Regent Cinema was demolished to make way for the new building.

From 2013-2019 I campaigned to Save the Regent Cinema, from making those first enquiries to the council about it's future after it being left to rot, to going public in an effort to get people power to stop any plans of a commercial multiplex being built on the Coatham site, to seeing it come back to life year on year, and then having it suddenly close after the Grenfill Tower disaster and tight building regs being introduced.

In February 2019, 6 years of campaigning to Save our Regent came to a successful end when Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council vowed to cancel all plans of an external multiplex and would invest in keeping our seaside Regent Cinema.

Unfortunately due to the age of the building, it needed to be replaced. Many don't realise what the campaign was fighting for and think it was lost because of today. But it was a fight to prevent its history being lost forever.

Everyone has a memory of the Regent. Everyone who's visited will remember the first film they ever saw. And I hope the new building will see our children's children making their own memories, walking to their seaside cinema in Redcar. ❀️
