Just wanted to lyk about a rave we’re hosting at the SU on Feb 6th. The first end-of-dry-Jan social at the SU!

The money raised thro tickets would go towards film festival submission for our film Lipgloss, babe?, and excess funds will be donated to the charity Ask for Angela.

The film explores the mutual bond between women and raises awareness around issues like spiking and sexual harassment on nights out. We’re proud to be partnered with Ask for Angela, whose mission closely aligns with the themes of our film.

We have a DJ collective from Leeds playing and some popular Manchester based DJs so it should be a big night. This will be the first ever proper rave at the SU, and we really want to get as many societies involved as possible. We would appreciate your attendance and any promotion of our event !

There will be a theme to the event too!! More details of the event will be released on our page.

Earlybird tickets are only £2.50 and other tier levels are all very cheap!

The people have voted and we will watch the Rocky Horror Picture Show on the 20th of January, Tuesday night.

Yes that’s right, filming society will now take place on Tuesday nights once again.

And since it’s the first session back it’s completely free to join us to watch.

The location will be in the new Adelphi building in room 1.16 at 7 pm.

Let’s do the time warp everyone.

Hey everybody tonight we are doing a pitch challenge.

Groups will receive a really bad idea for a movie and will have to sell it to an audience as a good idea.

Also another thing to mention that there is a room change tonight due to it being open day so we’ll be in the room 7.03 on the 7th floor.

Hope everyone can make it.

This week on Wednesday the 19th we are hosting a networking event with a very special guest, the founder of the film society, Jack Clarke.

Jack, who grew up in Kersal and studied Media Production and an MA in Production Management at Salford, has built a career centred on community-led and working-class storytelling across the Greater North. Since graduating, he’s worked as a creative producer, curator and writer, and currently splits his time between Factory International (Young Curator), Bury Art Museum (Moving Image Curator), and the Working Class Movement Library (Big Flame Project).

He also co-hosts an arts segment on WBAI-FM 99.5FM in New York, bringing UK grassroots culture to an international audience.

His work spans shorts, investigative documentaries and radio, as well as long-form independent cinema. Jack produced the multi award-winning feature film Nobody Loves You and You Don’t Deserve to Exist, which has gained over 60 festival awards worldwide. He recently co-curated KEEP THE FLAME BURNING with 16–25-year-old working-class volunteers, and is now producing and co-curating Nothing About Us Without Us, the Big Local Legacy exhibition opening next March.

Most recently, Jack and director Ciara O’Rourke were selected as 2025 finalists for Yarns: Disinfo, a national filmmaking scheme backed by Kodak, APA and Homespun where their new short Don’t Believe A Word I Say preimered at Curzon Soho on the 13th of November.

Jack has a lot of insight for students trying to break into the industry from building portfolios and navigating early freelance work to curation, community practice and regional film culture. Make sure you’re there.
