As the curtain falls on Willows on the Wear, as a team we find ourselves filled with gratitude. What began as a reimagining of a beloved story became something far greater; a celebration of Sunderland, of the River Wear, and of the remarkable people who call this place home.
This show was never just about Mole, Rat, Badger and Toad. It was about the stories shared in rehearsal rooms, the memories carried along the riverbanks, the laughter, the friendships formed, and the courage of people stepping onto a stage, some for the very first time.
To every performer, volunteer, supporter, teacher, parent, audience member, and community member who helped bring this production to life: thank you. You reminded us that theatre is at its most powerful when it belongs to everyone.
One of the greatest joys of writing Willows on the Wear was seeing how a community can come together to create something beautiful. Every voice mattered. Every story added another thread to the tapestry.
Although the performances are over, the impact remains. The confidence gained, the friendships made, the memories shared, and the pride in our city will continue long after that final applause.
Like the River Wear itself, stories keep moving forward. They connect generations, carry our history, and remind us that we are part of something bigger than ourselves.
