The Magic Lantern is an independent cinema showing a wide range of great films, RSC and National Theatre Live screenings, Live music and comedy. The Lantern is a fantastic 'old style' cinema and you can be assured of a great atmosphere and friendly welcome.

Reminder: you can play video games on our big screen every Monday morning throughout the summer holidays, from 10am to 12pm! 🎮

We'll have different games each week and everyone is welcome. You can stay for the full session or just pop in for a few games.

Tickets are £3 per gamer - no charge for spectators.

Please note, children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Our bar will be open. See you there!

Here are the Relaxed Screenings coming up over the next week.

We appreciate that not everyone wants to sit still for a long time in complete darkness, and that the usual sound level in a cinema can be a bit much for some people.

So, at these screenings, we relax our Code of Conduct:
- the lights remain dim
- the sound is turned down
- you are welcome to move around
- you don't need to remain silent
- the bar stays open, so you can buy more drinks and snacks if you wish
- the hatch between the bar and the cinema remains open, so you can leave the auditorium while still watching the film
- parents with babies are welcome

📽️ For our next Throwback Thursday, we're heading back to the 70s with this classic disaster film, starring a fantastic cast including Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine, Shelley Winters and Leslie Nielsen.

🌊 The story centres on the fictional SS Poseidon, an ageing luxury liner on its final voyage from New York City to Athens before being scrapped. On New Year's Day, it is overturned by a giant wave, trapping passengers and crew inside. A preacher then attempts to lead a small group of survivors to safety.

🕺 After the film, stay for a fantastic night of 70s Underwater UV Disco with DJ Nick!

If you haven’t seen it yet, or if you’d like to watch it again, this is your only chance!

A polite notice as we've entered the summer season: please allow plenty of time to arrive — at least 20 minutes before the advertised start time — if you plan to order food.

To ensure films start promptly, the bar and kitchen CLOSE at the advertised start time (except for Relaxed screenings). If you arrive after this time and it's busy, we will unfortunately not be able to serve you.

🎶 Gig-L are Lee, Christine, Amy and Claudia, providing tremendous entertainment, harmonies and laughter, along with a mix of original material and pop cover tunes.

🎸 We absolutely love them, so don’t miss these joyous and professional musicians! You’ll also get the chance to see them performing on the big stage in the stalls, as we’ve decided to move FNIMN to the MAIN STAGE for the summer!

Friday Night Music is a free event but donations are always welcome so we can pay our bands and keep these events free for all to enjoy. See you there!😍
