Master Mayur, born Mayur Raj Verma in 1964, became one of the most popular child actors of the 70s and 80s. Because of his uncanny resemblance to a young Amitabh Bachchan, he was nicknamed “Junior Amitabh Bachchan” and was often cast as Big B’s younger version on screen. Interestingly, Mayur’s entry into films happened by chance. His mother, a respected journalist who often interviewed film stars, once met filmmaker Prakash Mehra. During their conversation, Mehra mentioned he was looking for a boy to play young Amitabh in Muqaddar Ka Sikander. She suggested her son, and once Mehra saw Mayur’s photograph, he was instantly selected.
The film made him an overnight star, and soon he appeared in several blockbusters like Laawaris, Sharabi, Love in Goa, and Kanoon Apna Apna. Just when he was at the peak of his career, Mayur surprised everyone by walking away from films. While many thought it was a wrong move, life took him in a different direction. Today, he lives abroad with his wife Noori, a well-known chef, and their two children. Together, they run a successful restaurant in Wales, and Mayur has reinvented himself as a thriving businessman and family man.
