On the eve of the -94th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji*, let’s reflect on the value system the family imbibed through him.
SHAKTI — Mrs. Gursharan Kaur Singh
> “A right life partner is not the one who stands beside you for the photograph of your success. She is the one who stands by your principles when the world questions them.”
every great visionary is not just support, but silent strength — a partner who doesn’t complete you, but reflects you in every way possible.
From Khushwant Singh’s column in The Tribune:
A banquet was organized in honour of the Prime Minister. The hall was glittering. Wives of top officials in their finest silks.
And in a quiet corner, a woman in a simple suit, eating alone.
Her simplicity looked jarring. A few ladies walked up to her, “What does your husband do?”
With effortless poise, she said, “My husband works here...”
Whispers turned to certainty — she must be the wife of some lowly employee who has come to ruin the grandeur.
One lady, putting on airs, said, “Tell us plainly — what position does your husband hold?”
She replied with the same calm grace, “He holds the position of Prime Minister...”
There was a sudden rush to fetch more missi roti for her empty plate. But Mrs. Manmohan Singh, with a thank you, got up herself to fetch her own food.
That was Shakti.
I personally remember her as a very, very strict disciplinarian. For a man who stood by every principle in practice, you needed a partner who lived that discipline at home.
Dedicating this to the couple who proved simplicity is the highest sophistication.
Happy 94th Birthday, Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji.
