🇮🇳🤝🇻🇳 **India–Vietnam Defence Ties Set for Major Boost**

Vietnam is preparing for a major defence procurement from India, including the powerful **BrahMos supersonic missile system** and multiple naval vessels. This marks a significant step in strategic cooperation between the two nations in the Indo-Pacific region.

# # 🔹 Key Highlights

✅ **$500 Million Indian Defence Credit Line for Vietnam**
During PM Narendra Modi’s earlier visit to Vietnam, India extended a **$500 million Line of Credit** for defence purchases.

✅ **$300 Million Projects Already Identified**
Vietnam is expected to procure:

* **3–4 Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs)** from India
* **14 High-Speed Patrol Boats**

✅ **Possible BrahMos Missile Deal**
India and Vietnam have held discussions on the **BrahMos missile system**.
If finalized, Vietnam could become one of the major international operators of BrahMos.

✅ **Technology Transfer & Local Manufacturing**
Like earlier defence deals, many vessels may be built in Vietnam under **technology transfer agreements**, boosting Vietnam’s shipbuilding capability.

# # 🚢 Previous India–Vietnam Naval Cooperation

🔹 In 2022, India delivered **12 High-Speed Guard Boats** to Vietnam.

* 5 built by Larsen & Toubro in India
* 7 constructed in Vietnam’s Hong Ha Shipyard

🔹 In 2023, India transferred **INS Kirpan**, a Khukri-class corvette, to Vietnam Navy.
Vietnam inducted it as **HQ-26**.

# # ✈️ Defence Support Beyond Weapons

India is also offering:

* Maintenance support for Vietnam’s **Su-30 fighter jets**
* Assistance for **Kilo-class submarines**
* Possible supply of **Akash missile systems**

# # 🌏 Strategic Importance

This partnership strengthens:

* Indo-Pacific security cooperation
* Maritime defence capability
* India’s growing role as a global defence exporter

Vietnam already operates Russian coastal defence missiles, and BrahMos would significantly enhance its strike capability in the South China Sea.

🚀 **Developing MIRVs is one of the toughest achievements in missile engineering**

A MIRV (Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicle) allows a single ballistic missile to carry multiple nuclear warheads — each capable of striking a different target hundreds or even thousands of kilometers apart. ([Military Machine][1])

But achieving this capability is extraordinarily difficult. It requires mastery over some of the most advanced aerospace technologies on Earth:

🔹 **Miniaturization**
Warheads must be compact, lightweight, and powerful enough for several to fit inside one missile while maintaining strategic yield. ([Arms Control Center][2])

🔹 **Extreme Precision Guidance**
The “post-boost vehicle” or “bus” must perform tiny trajectory corrections in space using advanced inertial and stellar guidance systems.
Even a microscopic angular error of **0.01°** during release can lead to a miss of **500–1000 meters** after traveling 5,000–10,000 km. ([MissileStrikes.com][3])

🔹 **Thermal Protection & Reentry Survival**
Each reentry vehicle must survive atmospheric reentry at hypersonic speeds, facing temperatures hotter than molten lava. Specialized heat shields and aerothermal designs are critical. ([ResearchGate][4])

🔹 **Restartable Propulsion Systems**
The MIRV “bus” needs engines that can repeatedly fire, stop, and restart in space to deploy each warhead on a separate trajectory with pinpoint timing accuracy. ([MissileStrikes.com][3])

🔹 **Countering Missile Defense Systems**
MIRVs complicate interception because a single missile can release multiple warheads — and sometimes decoys — overwhelming enemy missile defenses. ([Arms Control Center][2])

Only a handful of nations have mastered this technology. The United States first deployed MIRVs in 1970, followed by the Soviet Union. Today, countries like Russia, China, France, the UK, and recently India are advancing MIRV-capable systems. ([Arms Control Center][2])

🇮🇳 India’s successful MIRV-capable Agni-5 test marked a major leap in indigenous strategic technology and aerospace precision engineering. ([Arms Control Center][2])

🇮🇳 It’s 7th May 2026 — and not a single LCA Tejas Mk1A has been officially delivered to the Indian Air Force yet.

What makes this delay more concerning is that HAL already has:
✈️ 6 GE F404 engines in inventory
✈️ More than 20 airframes reportedly manufactured or in advanced stages
✈️ Multiple aircraft structurally complete and flight-tested

Yet deliveries remain stuck.

The Tejas Mk1A programme was originally supposed to start deliveries in February 2024. Since then, timelines have repeatedly slipped due to:
▪️ Delayed GE F404 engine supplies
▪️ Certification and mission system integration issues
▪️ Radar, EW suite & weapons validation pending
▪️ Production sequencing bottlenecks

Reports suggest:
🔹 HAL says 5 aircraft are “ready for delivery”
🔹 9 additional jets are awaiting engines
🔹 IAF still wants full operational certification before induction
🔹 HAL has imposed contractual penalties on GE Aerospace for delays

The bigger concern is operational.

The Indian Air Force is already struggling with falling squadron strength while MiG-21s, Jaguars and older MiG-29 fleets are nearing retirement. The Mk1A is supposed to be the backbone of future squadron rebuilding.

Few aerospace companies globally could sit on such massive inventory without facing serious scrutiny over:
⚠️ Inventory holding costs
⚠️ Production efficiency
⚠️ Delivery accountability
⚠️ Programme management

This is not about criticizing indigenous defence programmes — India absolutely needs Tejas to succeed.

But national programmes also require transparency, ex*****on discipline, and timely delivery.

The Tejas Mk1A is too important for delays to become “normal.”

🇮🇳 India needs indigenous capability.
But capability must translate into combat-ready aircraft on the runway — not just airframes in hangars.

Crore Boost to India’s Electronic Warfare Edge 🚀

India takes a major leap in strengthening its battlefield intelligence and air defence capabilities as Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) secures a ₹1251 crore contract to deliver advanced Ground Based Mobile ELINT Systems (GBMES) to the Indian Army.

6

These cutting-edge systems are fully indigenous, developed by the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) under DRDO, marking another strong step towards Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Equipped with advanced Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) and Signal Intelligence (SIGINT) capabilities, GBMES can detect, intercept, classify, and locate enemy radar emissions and communication signals with high precision. Mounted on mobile platforms, these systems ensure rapid deployment, survivability, and real-time battlefield awareness, giving Indian forces a decisive edge in modern, technology-driven warfare.

This deal not only enhances situational awareness and air defence preparedness but also reinforces India’s shift towards network-centric warfare, where information dominance is key. With BEL continuing to deliver critical defence electronics and DRDO driving indigenous innovation, India is steadily reducing dependence on foreign systems while building a powerful, self-reliant defence ecosystem.

👉 A strong signal: India is not just defending its borders — it’s mastering the electromagnetic battlefield.
