In Dimapur, Global Handwashing Day was celebrated at Government High School, Purana Bazaar under the theme ‘Our hands, our future.’
Mass handwashing was the main highlight of the programme with students participating in washing hands with soap following the proper handwashing steps. Proper method of handwashing with soap was demonstrated to the students by Unis Awomi, Chemist, DWSM PHED (R) Division Dimapur.
A short programme was held prior to the mass handwashing, chaired by Imojungla Longkumer, San & Hygn Consultant, DWSM PHED (R) Division Dimapur. The programme was graced by Meren, Teacher, GHS, Purana Bazaar. Head Mistress of GHS Purana Bazar, Vizosieu Liegise exhorted the students to inculcate the basic sanitary habit of proper handwashing with soap as it the best protection against diarrhea, flu and many other diseases. She went on to say, the power to good health lay in our hands and that one should keep it clean.
Er. Hebo SDO, PHE, Dhansiripar delivered the vote of thanks. Soaps and bookmarks with proper handwashing steps were distributed to all the students on the occasion.
