The year 1950, just after independence young-bengal-youth, with their full confidence, were eager to establish dignified image of their motherland in front of the world-community. In those days it was beyond someone’s imagination to build a club-house to carry on traditional ‘Bengali-Adda’ but young founder members acquired a plot of land beside Kalikinkar Narayan Roy Road and created a shade with
palmyra leaf, Bamboos and
coconut-branches. After fifteen years, in the year 1965, Barisha Santi Sangha shifted it’s old place of origin and started organizing cultural programmes at a place beside Kalikinkar Road. This point of time was ‘the dawn of a new era’ and Sangha’s activities were warmly felicitated by all the people of Barisha, Behala and it’s surroundings, they also started participating in those days’ activities, many a people from different used to come on a regular basis. Afterwards Sangha started their functioning on the land of the Late Bijoy Krishna Chatterjee. During this period of time members staged a few dramas and plays like ‘Noder Nimai’, ‘Sri Sri Ramakrishna’, ‘Bhakta Prahlad’, etc. Popularity of the organization increased to a great extent, members formed a football team also which started participating in tournaments and within short period they became extremely famous. In the year 1996, to celebrate the birth-centenary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Sangha took up a massive action plan, --- Exhibition, featuring Documentary Films, Light-run, cultural programmes, organizing seminar, etc were part of this historical ceremony. With a big success of this major event, Sangha felt to diversify and expend it’s scope of activity. A charitable dispensary, a Kung-Fu school, regular donations of books and clothes to poor school going children, distribution of blankets To poor and wretched people were started at this point of time. Throughtout all these years, Sangha maintained it’s traditional ‘Kalipuja’ which is popularly known as ‘Sri Sri Shyamapuja’ of ‘ Barisha Santi Sangha’. Members active habits and engagements have made it a real success-story. If last five years performance is reviewed, it’s only success and nothing else. A perfect blending of Art, Culture, History and Kalipuja could never be possible without our members’ devotion to the Institution’ --- ‘Yes’, we call it an institution which has been running a workshop since fifty-years back, it teaches discipline, it teaches to perform, to accomplish a deed towards humanity --- result is our ‘Blood Donation Camp’ which takes place every year and we donate blood to ‘Thalasemic Guardians Association’.
