The Epstein files refer to court records, investigation documents, flight logs, depositions, and unsealed materials connected to financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of running a large-scale s*x trafficking network involving underage girls. These files became widely discussed after Epstein’s arrest in 2019 and his death in jail later that year. Many of the documents come from civil lawsuits—especially those involving Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell—and include names of powerful or well-known individuals mentioned in testimonies or contact records. Importantly, being named in the files does not automatically mean criminal guilt; in many cases, individuals are referenced without accusations or charges. The release of these files fueled global debate about abuse of power, accountability of elites, failures in the justice system, and the protection of victims. They remain a symbol of concerns around transparency, exploitation, and how influence can obstruct justice.
