This Thursday, 2nd April at 6.30 pm, we are screening the documentary  _The Show Must Go On_ (60 mins) directed by Divya and Jall Cowasji. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers.

In 2017, a group of veteran actors from the Parsi theatre scene reunited to stage one final performance. What began as a documentation of their rehearsals evolved into a film that captures the spirit of a close-knit community—where their enthusiasm for life and its simple joys proves truly contagious. The film has since been showcased at numerous festivals around the world and was selected to open the non-feature section at IFFI in 2022.

With Women’s Day just being celebrated, this Thursday,12th March at 6.30 pm, we are screening the award-winning documentary, The Beaches of Agnès (1hr 52 mins), as a tribute to one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, Agnès Varda.
As someone who broke the glass ceiling, this is Varda’s most personal and inventive work and features the legendary filmmaker herself as guide and storyteller. Blending autobiography, film clips, photographs, and playful staged scenes, the documentary traces Varda’s life. Moving across beaches that symbolize different chapters of her life, Varda reflects on memory, creativity, love, and the passage of time. Whimsical, reflective, and deeply human, the film becomes both a self-portrait and a meditation on art and remembrance.

This Thursday, 5th March, 6.30 pm, we are screening the classic adventure drama, _The Treasure of the Sierra Madre_ (1948, English, 2 hrs 6 mins), directed by John Huston, starring Humphrey Bogart.

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, one of John Huston’s most celebrated works, stars Bogart, alongside Tim Holt and Walter Huston. Set in the rugged landscapes of Mexico, the film follows two down-and-out Americans who join forces in search of gold in the Sierra Madre mountains. As fortune begins to favor them, suspicion and greed gradually erode their partnership. Taut, morally complex, and psychologically penetrating, the film stands as a powerful exploration of ambition, paranoia, and the corrupting lure of wealth. The film won three Academy Awards, including Best Director and Best Supporting Actor.

This Thursday, 26th Feb at 6.30 pm, we are screening the French film, _Elevator to the Gallows_  (Ascenseur Pour L’échafaud, French with English subtitles, 91 mins), directed by Louis Malle, with a music score by the legendary Miles Davis.

Director Louis Malle was just 26 years old when he made a smashing debut with this film, which went on to become a cult classic. Even though it was his first film, he convinced the great Miles Davis to score the music, and it was groundbreaking.

Adapted from the novel by Noel Calif, Elevator to the Gallows is about Florence (Jeanne Moreau) and Julien (Maurice Ronet), who works for her husband. The two lovers plot a crime, but it goes awry when Julien gets caught in a situation. Apart from Malle’s direction and the music score by Davis, which was completely improvised, the actress Jeanne Moreau also received praise for her performance. It is also one of those noir masterpieces that capture the beauty of Paris in all its glory and marked the beginning of an illustrious career for Malle.

The screening will be followed by a presentation by Sachin Ch**te about some of the filming locations of this classic noir.

This Thursday, 12th Feb at 6.30 pm, we are screening the romantic comedy, _Certified Copy_ (2010, English-French,1hr 46 mins), directed by Abbas Kiarostami.

_Certified Copy_ , the penultimate feature by Iranian auteur Abbas Kiarostami, stars Juliette Binoche as a French antiques dealer and William Shimell as a British writer. Set largely in Tuscany, the film follows the shifting dynamics of their relationship over the course of a single day. Richly layered and deliberately ambiguous, the film becomes a meditation on authenticity, intimacy, and the fragile constructions that shape relationships between a man and a woman. Binoche won the Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival that year.
