REPORT: Gaduwa Land Confrontation Between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Naval Officer

The tense confrontation between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and a naval officer unfolded at Gaduwa, before Games Village, around 12:55 PM.

According to credible sources, the land in question was legally acquired by Vice Admiral A.Z. Gambo in 2020, with all required documentation. Development activities on the site commenced on September 25, after which the Development Control Council visited to inspect building approvals. The necessary documents were reportedly presented to the officials.

However, two days later, Development Control officials allegedly returned, claiming that the property had been revoked by the current FCT Minister — without stating any formal reason or condition.

Repeated attempts to obtain clarification from the Minister’s office were said to have produced no concrete response. On Saturday, Minister Wike personally visited the site and allegedly issued threats, including intentions to demolish the ongoing structure.

At about 11:00 AM today, two bulldozers from Development Control reportedly arrived to carry out a demolition. Naval personnel on site refused entry, insisting that proper procedures must be followed. Following the standoff, the Minister allegedly called the FCT Commissioner of Police, yet the demolition attempt was still blocked.

The situation escalated when Wike arrived at the scene and was denied access by naval officers. He later contacted the Chief of Defence Staff, who reportedly confirmed that the officers were acting under official supervision pending further directives.

The incident continues to generate widespread public debate on issues of land ownership, legality, and executive power within the FCT.
