🏆 Dutch cinema shines at the Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) with Truly Naked and NL co-production Memory, two films that have resonated strongly with both audiences and juries for their power and sensitivity.

Truly Naked wins the Best Performance Award and the Ecumenical Jury Award, a tender coming-of-age story about vulnerability and connection.
Memory takes home the Best Documentary Award, a poetic and autobiographical hybrid film, that explores how cycles of violence shape children.

What is, is now, the new stop-motion short by Dutch filmmaker Jikke Lesterhuis, has been selected for the WTF Competition at Annecy 2026.

Set on a tidal sandbank, the two-minute film uses humour and detailed handmade animation to explore the fragility of nature and how easily human actions can disrupt its balance.

In our interview, Lesterhuis discusses the challenge of working in an ultra-short format, her passion for stop-motion, and her upcoming projects.

⛴️🎞️ SEE NL takes the ferry to Eye Filmmuseum with celebrated director Hisko Hulsing, who is returning to Annecy Festival with his latest work Danse Macabre, an apocalyptic nightmare about war, based on music by Dmitri Shostakovich.

In Danse Macabre, Shostakovich’s music drags us into a violent maelstrom of terror, destruction and human suffering. Produced by Richard Valk Productions and festival distribution handled by Studio Wasia, the short film is selected for the Short Competition.

🎬 Sophie Olga de Jong and Sytske Kok present A Dog's Life, an animated short selected for the Annecy 2026 Short Film Competition.

Inspired by a real-life experience, the film follows a young girl as she begins to question the cycle of life after saying goodbye to her grandmother's dog.

The directors discuss their collaborative creative process, the film's visual symbolism, and how they found the right balance between emotion, sensitivity and humour.

🎬 Dutch producer Nienke Korthof (Tangerine Tree) co-produces THE APOLOGIST by Kristof Bilsen, receiving its world premiere in International Competition at Sheffield DocFest.

🔹 The film probes the power of apology - personal and political - backed by four broadcaster co-producers: NDR/ARTE, VRT, VPRO and RTBF.
🔹 Korthof also has THE SACRIFICE at the Meet Market, a film about polar explorer Marc Cornelissen, who died in 2015 falling through the Arctic ice.

🎬 Darya Andijan, a Uyghur filmmaker based in the Netherlands, presents her short film DO YOU KNOW THAT I'M WITH YOU at Sheffield DocFest — an intimate, poetic work about memory, identity and cultural resistance.

🔹 The film reclaims the myth of Gülem, a forgotten goddess of carpet weaving, as a way to recover the Uyghur language and culture long suppressed in Xinjiang.
🔹 In this interview with SEE NL, Andijan talks about the journey to Uzbekistan that inspired the film and her determination to develop this story into a feature documentary.
