🎬 PREVIEW SCREENING — This Sunday, September 6

June 1940. France bows to the German army. One man refuses to accept defeat: General de Gaulle. With no army, no support, and only an unshakeable belief in a free France, he flees to London to organise the resistance from exile.

Liberté is the second and final part of Antonin Baudry's epic two-part portrait of Charles de Gaulle, following Résistance. Featuring an impressive French-English cast: Simon Abkarian (Casino Royale), Anamaria Vartolomei (The Count of Monte Cristo), Niels Schneider (Diamant noir), Mathieu Kassovitz (La Haine), Thierry Lhermitte (Le Dîner de cons), Félix Kysyl (Miséricorde), and Simon Russell Beale (House of the Dragon, The Death of Stalin).

Op woensdag 16 september om 19:00 is columnist Japke-d. Bouma te gast bij The Pulse voor een speciale vertoning van De Manager. Ze opent de avond met een korte inleiding en gaat na afloop met het publiek in gesprek.

De Manager kijkt mee achter de deuren van functioneringsgesprekken, waar managers en medewerkers zoeken naar de juiste balans tussen feedback, verwachtingen en empathie. Een herkenbaar, soms ongemakkelijk en verrassend geestig portret van de moderne werkvloer.

Japke-d. Bouma staat bekend om haar scherpe en humoristische blik op kantoorcultuur, werk en leiderschap. Tijdens het nagesprek deelt ze ook haar inzichten en tips.

New week, new films at Cinema The Pulse!

The Dog Stars stars Jacob Elordi as a pilot searching for hope and humanity in a post-apocalyptic world.

Un anno di scuola follows a group of teenagers through their final year of school in Trieste, from acclaimed Italian director Laura Samani.

To mark its 25th anniversary, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone returns to the big screen for one week only.

And finally, we are starting our Jacques Demy retrospective with Les Parapluies de Cherbourg, the sung-through musical that made Catherine Deneuve a star and won the Palme d'Or at Cannes.

It's been 25 years since Harry first stepped through the barrier at Platform 9¾, and we're celebrating in the best way possible: bringing Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone back to the big screen.

From this Thursday, we begin a retrospective of the films of French director Jacques Demy, a filmmaker with a string of colourful, fairy-tale-like classics to his name. Step into Demy's world and you're bound to leave the cinema in a better mood than when you arrived. Demy built a body of work full of colour and romance that still holds up beautifully today.

The retrospective opens this week with Les Parapluies de Cherbourg, the film that made him internationally famous. Every single line is sung to the music of Michel Legrand, turning a simple love story into a fully sung-through musical that is as moving as it is unforgettable. It won the Palme d'Or at Cannes and picked up five Oscar nominations along the way. You may already know it, but there's much more of Demy's world still to discover.

From Thursday, September 3, we also screen Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, Peau d'Âne, La baie des anges and Lola.

Two family films on the big screen 🎬
Minoes returns 25 years after its original release! She looks human but is secretly a cat, and when she teams up with journalist Tibbe, her network of feline informants helps him uncover the truth about the village's most "trusted" citizen. Charming, witty and heartwarming, with a romantic twist.

Also new: The Magic Faraway Tree, where three siblings discover a magical, ever-changing land at the top of a tree in their new backyard. Starring Andrew Garfield, Claire Foy, and Nicola Coughlan.

And for something less family-friendly: the long-awaited Teenage S*x and Death at Camp Miasma arrives. A director rebooting a cult slasher franchise becomes obsessed with the reclusive actress behind the original "final girl": chaos ensues. Starring Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson.
