A little taste of going to the pictures.
https://store.deluxecinemas.co.nz/pages/collectors-box

The bus into town. Meeting your mates. A box of orange chocolates before the lights went down.

If you remember the Regent, Savoy, Avon or Westend, these might bring a few of those memories back.

Our Intermission Treats are here — four collectible cinema boxes filled with orange coated chocolate, with old photographs and a little of each cinema’s story on the back.

The individual boxes are available in store now. The Collector’s Box brings all four together and is available in store and online.

It’s a limited print run, so if you’d like a set to keep or give to someone who remembers, now’s a good time.

Look what’s coming to Deluxe very soon!

Lots of you have been asking us for Jaffas at the movies. So we’ve been working on something!

They’re called Intermission Treats. Orange-coated chocolate in four limited-edition boxes featuring the Regent, Savoy, Avon and Westend, with old photos on the front and each cinema’s story on the back.

Did you go to any of these cinemas? Tell us what you remember in the comments. Who did you go with? What did you see? We’d love to hear it.

🎁 We’ve got 3 Collector’s Boxes to give away. Each one contains all four cinema boxes, filled with Intermission Treats. Leave a cinema memory below and you’re in the draw.

It doesn’t have to be a big story. It might just be the film you saw on a first date, or going into town for the pictures with your family. Memories of other cinemas count too, including stories your parents or grandparents have told you.

We’ll pick three winners at random from the entries.

If you know someone who remembers these cinemas, feel free to pass this on. Sharing is optional and doesn’t give extra entries.

You’ll be able to get them at Deluxe Cinemas, The Tannery, very soon. We’ll let you know when they arrive.

We’ll announce the three winners here in this post on 22 October and ask them to message us. There’s nothing to pay and no claim link to follow.

Entries close Wednesday 21 October, 8pm NZDT. NZ residents aged 18+. One entry per person. No purchase necessary. Draw 22 October. Full terms below.

500 Days in the Wild — Coming this Thursday at Deluxe Cinemas.

One woman, six years, 24,000 kilometres—and a trail no one had completed. Filmmaker Dianne Whelan became the first to travel the entire Trans Canada Trail by bike, canoe, skis, snowshoes and on foot. That’s an adventure measured in grit, wild landscapes and persistence.

Drawn from 800 hours of footage, much of it filmed by Whelan herself, 500 Days in the Wild follows her cross-cultural visits with people living close to the land. Come for the remarkable scale; stay for the human effort and curiosity threaded through every mile.

La Bola Negra — Coming this Thursday at Deluxe Cinemas.

Three lives, linked by desire, pain and inheritance, unfold across different eras in La Bola Negra—a bold, non-linear story of being gay as the world changes around them.

Los Javis won Best Director at Cannes for the film, which stars Penélope Cruz and Glenn Close alongside singer-songwriter Guitarricadelafuente in his acting debut. With Toronto’s People’s Choice Award and San Sebastián’s Audience Award, this is a story that has already resonated with festival audiences—and is ready to stay with you.

Sense and Sensibility — Coming this Thursday at Deluxe Cinemas.

Jane Austen’s wit and romantic tension get a fresh eye from director Georgia Oakley, whose debut Blue Jean won four British Independent Film Awards and the Venice Film Festival Audience Award. Her naturalistic touch suits a story where a cutting remark can shift the whole room.

Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esme Creed-Miles lead, with Caitriona Balfe, George MacKay and Fiona Shaw. Expect sharp social observation, tangled romance and sisterly loyalty as the sisters weigh feeling against good sense. Austen’s heart-versus-head dilemma is made for a proper cinema date.

The Wizard of the Kremlin — Coming this Thursday at Deluxe Cinemas.

Olivier Assayas, the Cannes Best Director winner behind Carlos and Personal Shopper, turns the making of political power into a thriller. Paul Dano plays a young artist-turned-TV producer drawn into shaping Vladimir Putin’s rise, while Jude Law plays Putin.

Set amid post-Soviet upheaval, The Wizard of the Kremlin puts image-making at the heart of its story: how a leader’s public face is built and protected. Assayas brings a filmmaker’s eye to a world where storytelling can become a weapon—and one man’s talent helps shape the course of power.
