Regent Pahiatua

Regent Pahiatua Founded in 1940, we're a non-profit, community-owned and operated cinema that screens contemporary, classic & homegrown films.

Also available for private screenings, fundraiser screenings, school screenings etc. Kerridge Theatres opened The Regent Pahiatua on 23 Feb 1940. Decades later, the building was purchased by the Pahiatua Repertory Society to be used as their performance space as well as the continued use as a cinema. Today, the 110 seat upstairs movie theatre is the oldest, continually operated picture house in th

e Tararua District. In addition to our weekly programmed films, we offer screen fundraiser events, private shows, birthday parties and school screenings. In August 2011 we refurbished our auditorium thanks to sponsorship from local residents. This enabled the purchase and installation of new seats, ceiling insulation, and acoustic panels and drapes along the walls. This not only added visual appeal but also greatly improved the Dolby Digital Surround Sound. With a very generous grant from the Waireka Community Trust, we now offer our mobility-impaired patrons a lift from the cinema foyer to the upstairs auditorium. In December 2014 we were granted $80,000 from the Central Energy Trust which enabled us to transition to a DCI compliant 2D/3D projection system. All screenings are now industry standard DCPs with Dolby certified surround sound. Today, fundraising for restoring and refurbishing continues!

The Time Traveller's Guide to Hamilton Gardens - Final Screening - Thurs 2pm

Documentary
Rating: G
Runtime: 1hr 3min

How did a city rubbish dump transform into a collection of gardens that is now a major visitor attraction? The story of how Hamilton Gardens became a unique museum of humanity, showcasing gardens from ancient Egypt to the surreal future, is told on screen. A Museum of Humanity: The Time Traveller’s Guide to Hamilton Gardens documentary explores this stunning achievement. Each of the gardens reflects the beliefs, lifestyles, and values of those who created them. The viewer can travel backwards and forwards in time – moving from 16th-century England, back to Song Dynasty China, Ancient Egypt, and the Italian Renaissance, and forward to the future, from sustainable to surreal. Masterminded by designer Peter Sergel and developed with council, community support, and sponsorship, Hamilton Gardens is now recognised as one of the great gardens of the world. More than places to walk, these gardens are living histories, waiting to be explored.

Directed by Grant Sheehan
Featuring: Peter Sergel, Mark de Lisle, John Dobson, Lucy Ryan, Gus Flower, Alice Gwilliam, Glen Morris.

Comedy, Drama
Rating: M
Runtime: 1hr 59min

A decade after tossing her Chanel-clad phone into a Parisian fountain, Andy Sachs has carved out a name for herself as a powerhouse independent journalist. But when the high-gloss world of prestige media begins to implode, she is pulled back into the orbit of the legendary Miranda Priestly.
Miranda is facing her greatest threat yet: a ruthless private equity firm determined to dismantle Runway and replace its editorial soul with AI-driven algorithms and fast-fashion "content." To survive, Miranda needs more than just a dedicated assistant—she needs a strategic partner who understands the new digital landscape.
Andy is the only one who can bridge the gap, but her return to the fold comes with a price. As she navigates a world of viral scandals, high-stakes power plays, and the return of an even more ambitious Emily Charlton, Andy must decide if she can play Miranda’s game without losing her own soul again.
Fashion has changed. The rules have evolved. But there is still only one Miranda Priestly.

The Sheep Detectives - Sat 2pm, Sun 6pm

Rating: PG
Runtime: 1hr 49min

The film follows George Hardy (Jackman), a shepherd who loves his sheep and raises them only for their wool. Every night he reads aloud a murder mystery, pretending his sheep can understand, never suspecting that not only can they understand but they argue for hours afterwards about whodunnit. When George is found dead under mysterious circumstances, the sheep realize at once that it was a murder and think they know everything about how to go about solving it. The local cop Tim Derry (Braun), on the other hand, has never solved a serious crime in his life, so the sheep conclude they will have to solve it themselves, even if it means leaving their meadow for the first time and facing the fact that the human world isn’t as simple as it appears in books.

Actors: Hugh Jackman, Nicholas Braun, Emma Thompson, Nicholas Galitzine, Molly Gordon, Hong Chau
