HKFGP closes out Saturday night with the most kinetic film in this year's line-up.

GAMER GIRLS《电竞女孩》follows Dollhouse, an all-female Hong Kong esports team that fell apart years ago when its unofficial leader Summer (Angela Yuen) walked away for a respectable office job. Stuck and miserable, she pulls the old squad back together, and they turn a neighbourhood cha chaan teng into a makeshift tournament hub. Then, weeks before citywide team selections, a sweeping account suspension threatens to wipe out the entire local scene.

The debut feature of Veronica Bassetto and Sophie Yang, made on a shoestring with cast and crew doubling up on roles, and with a whole game world, Dystopian Glory, designed by Bassetto herself.

It premiered internationally at the International Film Festival Rotterdam earlier this year.

HKFGP's final day opens with a tribute to one of Hong Kong's great musical voices.

BECAUSE OF YOU KA KUI《真的相识过》is a documentary about Wong Ka Kui, frontman, chief songwriter and soul of Beyond, the most influential Cantopop rock band Hong Kong has produced. He died in Tokyo in 1993 at just 31, having written more than a hundred songs in a decade.

Directed by Rosa Pang, the film arrives on the 33rd anniversary of his death and traces his musical journey for the fans who grew up on it, and for anyone who has only ever known the songs. His beliefs outlasted his era, and the music still moves people.

The second half of our Double Dragon tribute to Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris closes out HKFGP's final day.

ENTER THE DRAGON《龙争虎斗》is the film that made Bruce Lee a global icon, and the one he did not live to see its release. Directed by Robert Clouse as the first co-production between Hollywood and Hong Kong's Golden Harvest, it sends Lee to a martial arts tournament on a private island, hiding an investigation inside the competition. John Saxon, Jim Kelly, Shih Kien and Bolo Yeung round out the cast.

More than fifty years on, the hall of mirrors finale still has no equal, and the film remains the clearest record of what Bruce Lee could do. It belongs on a cinema screen.

The first half of our Double Dragon tribute to Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris lands on Saturday night.

THE WAY OF THE DRAGON《猛龙过江》is the only film Bruce Lee ever directed, and the one where he had full creative control. He wrote it, directed it and stars as a country boy sent from Hong Kong to Rome to help defend a family restaurant from local gangsters. Nora Miao, Chuck Norris and Bob Wall round out the cast.

It is looser and funnier than people remember, right up until the final act, when Lee faces Norris in an empty Roman Colosseum in one of the most famous fight scenes ever staged. The two men trained together and were close friends long before they ever fought on camera. Watching them meet again now that both are gone means something different in 2026.

The Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation (HKFGP) heads to the water on Saturday afternoon with a romance about online pile-ons and second chances.

WAKESURF LOVERS《浪花男女》is set against Hong Kong's wakesurfing boom. A surf instructor is falsely accused and publicly shamed online, and among the trolls is a drifting film school graduate whose mocking video of her goes viral. When he realises the rumours were fabricated and that he helped wreck her reputation, he signs up for her lessons under his real name to try to make it right. What follows is a story about two loners finding something genuine beyond the digital noise.

Written and directed by Fung Chih-chiang from his own original story, and produced by Philip Yung, whose own film THE SNOWBALL ON A SUNNY DAY also screens at HKFGP this year. Starring Renci Yeung, Jeffrey Ngai and Kevin Chu.

The Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation (HKFGP) continues on Saturday with a film about the two kinds of hunger: the one in your stomach, and the one that keeps you scrolling at 2am.

THE DATING MENU《厨师发办》follows Hark Lam, a gifted but rootless chef whose Japanese omakase restaurant is quietly sinking in post-pandemic Hong Kong, and who still cannot get over the girlfriend he lost three years ago. He turns to a dating app, and the film unfolds across four omakase dates with four very different women, each one revealing something about him and something about the city.

It is co-directed by Amos Why, the indie filmmaker behind FAR FAR AWAY and DOT 2 DOT, with Frankie Chung making his co-directing debut. Lo Chun-yip takes his first leading role, alongside Renci Yeung, Rachel Leung, Crystal Cheung and Kearen Pang.

The film premiered at the 50th Hong Kong International Film Festival earlier this year.

The Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation (HKFGP) opens its fifth year with one of the most talked-about Hong Kong titles of 2026.

DOG DAY EVENING《一个部门的诞生》is an absurdist workplace comedy about a man who takes a customer service worker hostage over a cancelled cable subscription. What starts as a small complaint spirals rapidly into chaos.

It marks the feature directing debut of Mak Tin Shu, the two-time Hong Kong Film Award winner for Best Screenplay behind TRIVISA and DETECTIVE VS SLEUTHS.

Even better: Director Mak Tin Shu and actress Rachel Leung will both be in Singapore for opening night, with a Q&A after the screening. A rare chance to hear from the filmmakers themselves!

香港电影巡礼再度回到狮城，今年已是第五届！我们很高兴再次与亚洲电影大奖学院携手合作，并回到五年前首度合办活动的邵氏 丽都 戏院。

三天，八部电影。开幕片为麦天枢导演的《一个部门的诞生》，导演与女主角梁雍婷将亲临现场映后交流；《厨师发办》及《浪花男女》则有杨偲泳到场与观众见面。

《猛龙过江》与《龙争虎斗》由邵氏机构呈献，向李小龙与罗礼士致敬，两条龙同场亮相，机会难得。

9月13日另设免费座谈「顶天立地：港新导演的双城对话」，由麦天枢与新加坡导演孙立人对谈，需预先报名。
