Sep 8 thru 10
Tue to Thu 3:45, 8:15
Dir. Rafael Manuel - 2025 - 100m - Singapore / UK/ Philippines / Netherlands / France - In Filipino with English subtitles

The extraordinary & visually dazzling Filipino golf resort dark comedy!

Displaying an extraordinary command of his surreal and unnerving visual language, first-time filmmaker Rafael Manuel adapts his award-winning 2020 short film of the same name to chilling effect. Manuel plumbs the depths of Filipino identity and national consciousness to uncover ominous fragments and cracks that defy picture-perfect unity. Through a stylized, colorful approach lensed with care and precision by cinematographer Xenia Patricia, Manuel takes us into a world where violence and control are exerted with the subtle flick of a wrist or tip of a hat. Painting a scathing portrait of class disparities and post-colonial power structures in ways that are both quiet and unsettling, Filipiñana announces the arrival of an accomplished writer-director who unflinchingly confronts his country’s past, present, and future.

"A great film can be recognized from its first shot, and that’s how it is with Filipiñana, which grabbed me from the very beginning, announcing itself as a masterwork... Its scenes are finely composed and precisely staged yet fluidly energetic. They are exemplary in their sensory beauty, in the delicately understated emotions that they embody, in the world that they conjure, in the analytical insight that they unfold. With Filipiñana, Manuel opens new vistas in the future of the cinema." – Richard Brody, The New Yorker

“A rich, densely cinematic film, it is a stunning assured debut from young Filipino filmmaker Rafael Manuel... A film that should be seen in cinemas.” – C.J. Prince, The Film Stage

“Darkly comic, visually inventive...cinematically builds into a scathing account of inequality.” – Jordan Mintzer, The Hollywood Reporter

Mon 6:00pm only!
Dir. Joel Schumacher - 1983 - 100m

The Mr. T 80's comedy as part of ourLabor Day Special double feature with the 90s Parkey Posey, Lisa Kudrow & Toni Collette comedy CLOCKWATCHERS!

From Joel Schumacher, the outstanding director of St. Elmo's Fire, The Lost Boys, Flatliners, Falling Down, The Client, A Time to Kill and Veronica Guerin, comes this action-packed comedy about the misadventures of a group of streetwise cabbies. Washington, D.C. becomes the District of Comedy in this high-speed hit starring Adam Baldwin (My Bodyguard), Mr. T (The A-Team), Gary Busey (Point Break), Irene Cara (Fame) and Bill Maher (House II: The Second Story). When young Albert Hockenberry (Baldwin) wants to become a cabbie, he's got the wackiest teachers around, courtesy of his uncle Howard (Max Gail, Barney Miller) and the freewheeling D.C. Cab Co., including Samson (Mr. T) and Dell (Busey). Along the way, Albert falls in love with beautiful waitress Claudette (Jill Schoelen, The Stepfather) and gets caught up in a kidnapping, with Mr. T and the other cabbies riding to the rescue. From a raid on a topless club and a game of chicken with an oncoming train to cameo appearances by top stand-up comedians, their hilarious hijinks keep the laughs coming!

"Jumps you in the spirit of a big, shaggy and affection-craving pooch ... too full of zest and good will to be resisted." - Gary Arnold, Washington Post

The Parker Posey temp worker comedy as part of our Happy Labor Day double feature special with the 1983 Mr. T comedy DC CAB!

Boasting an incredible cast (Parker Posey, Toni Collette & Lisa Kudrow!) , a sharp script, and a surprisingly bittersweet tone, CLOCKWATCHERS is nothing short of a great time at the movies. Temp worker Margaret (Parker Posey, PARTY GIRL) feels jilted after a new employee is hired for a permanent position she was vying for. Her friends — Iris (Toni Collette, THE SIXTH SENSE), Paula (Lisa Kudrow, FRIENDS), and Jane (Alanna Ubach, LEGALLY BLONDE) — want to help out, but their relationships are tested when a series of thefts wreak havoc on the workplace.

MIDSOMMAR (2019)

Sat and Sun 3:45pm only!
End of the summer daytime horror in the daytime!
Dir. Ari Aster - 2019 - 148m

A day time special of Ari Aster's daytime horror knockout!

Dani and Christian are a young American couple with a relationship on the brink of falling apart. But after a family tragedy keeps them together, a grieving Dani invites herself to join Christian and his friends on a trip to a once-in-a-lifetime midsummer festival in a remote Swedish village. What begins as a carefree summer holiday in a land of eternal sunlight takes a sinister turn when the insular villagers invite their guests to partake in festivities that render the pastoral paradise increasingly unnerving and viscerally disturbing. From the visionary mind of Ari Aster comes a dread-soaked cinematic fairytale where a world of darkness unfolds in broad daylight.

"In this immersive, subtle and unsettling horror master-work, Ari Aster takes his audience by the hand, and slowly and surely introduces the disturbing beneath the festive, relaxing and innocent." - Diana Tuova, Spotlight on Film

"Packed with reminders that if a film succeeds in depicting the darkness within vividly, then a sunshine-y environment can make the experience even more unnerving. Because viewers have nowhere to hide." - Jai Arjun Singh, Firstpost
