Eleven Atlanta Outdoor Club members enjoyed a memorable Ranger-guided hike to the summit of Panola Mountain, one of Georgia's most unique and protected natural treasures. Unlike a typical fitness hike, this adventure for the club was all about slowing down and taking in the incredible history, geology, plants, and wildlife that make this area special. Four Atlanta Outdoor Club members escaped the Atlanta heat for a hike to a seldom-explored summit along the Chunky Gal Trail, just across the Georgia state line in North Carolina. While Atlanta sweltered in the 90s, hikers enjoyed refreshing temperatures in the 70s as they hiked about six miles through a lush forest lined with blooming rhododendrons. Trip leader Greg Pharo says his group also enjoyed great views of Lake Chatuge and Brasstown Bald from the summit. Learn more about our variety of events at AtlantaOutdoorClub.com

Thanks to Clay Davies for leading this adventurous hike for the Atlanta Outdoor Club! He says, "We had a group of eight hike to Panther Creek Falls. Within the first 10 minutes of arriving to the falls, the heavens opened and dumped rain on us! We moved under tree cover until it lighted up before retracing our steps back to the trailhead. The positive spin is that the temperature dropped by at least 10 degrees and everyone had a soggy but fun experience." Learn more about our variety of events at AtlantaOutdoorClub.com
