While working for Ogunquit Playhouse this summer, we're pushing hard get Maven back up and running from afar - sewing by day, grant applications & fundraising event planning by night!

It is extremely fitting that right down the road is this INCREDIBLE historic cinema, built over 100 years ago!

They showcase movies throughout film history, host live events, and offer a delicious menu!

We watched Casablanca, and couldn't help feeling super inspired to make Maven the best experience yet!

So excited to share the next steps soon!

Part Two of the Story of Maven: In 2023, we decided it was time to make the dream a reality - after exploring several locations we discovered the historic "Sticky Shoe" cinema beloved by the community for 3/4 of a century, having been built by a trailblazer in cinemas in Utah as his final, grandest theater in 1950 just before his passing.

We couldn't purchase the building, but signed a short term lease and put everything we had into reopening the space to the community!

Ownership of the cinema changed hands in early 2024, and we continued to work hard to create positive events, showcase movies throughout film history, and support Independent Filmmakers

We felt great joy in seeing our dream fulfill the dreams of others!

On June 2, 2024 a small fire in our neighbors' space shut the cinema down.

The owners addressed the minimal repairs very slowly, and we rode the roller coaster ride of hanging onto hope, looking for alternative venues, and loosing hope several times over for many months

February 2025 the owners reached out to see about us leasing again. Negotiations were challenging, and a number months in we had to walk away.

2 years after the fire the building owners are on the final steps to have occupancy re-issued

In the meantime we took the next steps of the dream by forming the nonprofit Film Maven Haven Society

We have a wonderful board who shares in the passion to bring awesome films and events to our community. They have been working hard to help make it possible for us to continue this dream!

We can't wait to share the next steps in the journey, and get back to serving our community through the power of film, storytelling, and connections!

We've had a lot of questions about Maven, so we wanted to share the Story of Maven:

Growing up in the late 90s, I frequently attended Flagship Cinemas in the very small town of Norway, Maine using hard earned $ from my after school job where I fell in love with the cinema experience.

I watched the community come together to save the cinema during the shift to digital

As newlyweds in 2005, I worked at Regal Cinemas in Orlando, Florida where the dream to operate a small historic cinema was born

During my undergrad years we worked for Cinemagic from 2006-2015. I worked with both 35 mm projectors and new digital equipment (the film industry made a massive switch to digital in 2012), learning all aspects of operations and serving as head projectionist for the entire New England chain (I put a secret love letter in the pre-show content I created that showed on their screens for years...)

We loved to turn the theater-going experience into a true event! We enjoyed planning midnight showings for some of the most beloved franchises! Even mixed sound for Taylor Swift there while she was up-and-coming!

We moved to Hawaii in 2015 for grad school and I continued as a projectionist for Consolidated Theaters

In 2023, we decided it was time to make the dream a reality....see Part Two for the rest!

As we prepare to celebrate our nations' 250 birthday this summer, we are so excited to kick-off the summer-fun season with Memorial Day. Originally dubbed "Declaration Day" in 1868 to remember those who fought in the Civil War, we take this day to remember the sacrifices made throughout the history of our country to help future generations enjoy the freedoms this nation was founded to provide.

We wish we were able to celebrate with you by watching inspiring films on the BIG screen - in the meantime we hope your day is filled with loved ones, delicious food, and wonderful movies that help us to remember......

After several LONG months of working and waiting, we have FINALLY received our nonprofit status.

Film Maven Haven Society is officially a 501(c)3. We are beyond thrilled to be that much closer to bringing a community center to Utah county that will provide the benefits of storytelling and film!

Stay tuned as we work through next steps and have more updates for you!
