We're kicking off this year's Sustainability Film Series with DOWN BY THE RIVERSIDE, featuring a Q&A with THE FILMMAKERS Jodie Childers and Dan Messina next Wednesday, September 9th, at 7 p.m.!

An intimate portrait of Pete Seeger and the grassroots community he anchored in the Hudson Valley for over forty years with his wife Toshi, DOWN BY THE RIVERSIDE shows how an unconventional campaign to save a beloved American waterway prompted a green revolution. Before the event, beginning at 6:20 p.m., local musician Steve Zarate will perform Pete Seeger covers in the Athena lobby!

Don't miss your chance to hear cool music, watch a thoughtful, important documentary, and hear from the filmmakers themselves about their process!

EXTRA SPECIAL EVENT: In honor of Dolly Parton, we're playing STEEL MAGNOLIAS on Thursday, September 10th at 7 p.m. Tickets are donation-based and proceeds will go to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a program that mails free books to children from birth until they begin school.

Dr. Tiffany Arnold will introduce the show with a short tribute to Dolly.

Consider this an extra-special addition to our From the Hills & Hollers: Appalachian Film Series. Thanks to all the series supporters: University Libraries, College of Health Sciences and Professions, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Honors Tutorial College, OU School of Film, and The Office of Signature Academic Experiences. :)

From the producers of FRIENDSHIP and WEAPONS comes the black horror comedy film BUDDY, premiering at the Athena this Friday, September 4th! It follows a group of children trapped inside a 1990s-style children’s television series who must find a way to escape their giant, bright-orange unicorn host.

Coming up Tuesday, September 22nd, at 7 p.m.: AZTEC BATMAN, the first film in this year's Hispanic Film Series! Start off Hispanic Heritage month with this superhero film written and directed by Mexican filmmaker Juan Meza-León.

Admission is FREE for everyone, but tickets are required, so be sure to pick yours up at the theater! The series was made possible with the support of Pragda (), SPAIN arts & culture, and the Secretary of State for Culture of Spain. Special thanks to and for organizing the series.
