The company dates back to 1999 when Ryan first picked up his parent's camera and began shooting movies. The company has been through a series of name changes over the years, including SCLAB, CRANK, HYD, and Stupid Amateur Films. The reasoning for finally choosing CRANK as the co

mpany name, dates back to when Ryan was in Jr. CRANK is an acronym for Ryan's first group of filmmaking peers; Chad, Ryan, Austin, Nick and Kevin. Another reasoning for the name is that in the early days of cinema you had to hand crank the projector in order to see the film. The objective of this company is really just to have something fancy at the beginning of our movies... and to create engaging stories through cinema!
