The Latchis Memorial Building houses four theaters for movies, performance and events. The Main Theater boasts 750 seats, a full stage, lighting and sound, backstage facilities and the largest movie screen in Southern Vermont. It has been in use since 1938 and is a member of the League of Historic American Theatres. Bedecked with Greek murals by the Hungarian-American painter Louis Jambor, swaddle

d in velvet curtains, and accented with a panoramic view of the Zodiac on the ceiling, the Latchis Theater began with Vaudeville and silent films and has been showing exceptional music, art, and moving pictures to Southern Vermont for over eighty years. Today, the Latchis Theatre is continuing its movie programming and events, while staying safe with COVID-19 precautions and offering a popular private rental option for screenings and events. The non-profit Latchis Arts, has made the Latchis a true hub for art, culture, and the creative economy in Southern Vermont since it purchased the building in 2003. As stewards of the premier performing and cinematic arts venue in Southern Vermont, the mission of Latchis Arts is to promote and host cultural activities for the benefit of local and regional communities and to preserve the Latchis Memorial Building for future generations.
