Jigsaw (2017): 7.5/10

If you're familiar with the "Saw" franchise, you understand quite well how each one manages to tie in some mind-blowing twist to pull everything together as you would expect of any thriller worth it's chills and intrigue. This film accomplishes it in such a way, where you're hanging on through the initial surprise about mid-picture an on through it's duration, pulling things together in a fashion that, ultimately, paves the way for more things to happen, even though they realistically could have stopped. That's what's been the solid foundation for these films, ultimately. There's the shock and gross factor which takes the stance for it's horror nature, more than a demonic and elusive otherworldly fright and then the intrigue of mystery surrounding the strange contraptions gives it more of a pulse. That's what makes Saw what it is - mystery and shock that scares you in a nerve-inducing level because you simply can't imagine feeling what they feel, yet you can't turn away from the gross factor with some mystery to tie it all up.

Blade Runner (1982): 9.0/10

Reality or artificiality is the clash of everything moral and immoral characterized down to a science that may allow something classified of a heart or intelligence to be known. While nothing can never be taken as seen 100% of the time, what can be accepted is the archetype of societal social infrastructure is a dynamic that spans time and evolution even when the evolutionary front can only be made possible through creation if your own kind has reached it's pinnacle. This does not mean that what's created inherently peaks in the eyes of the creator, but merely what can emerge from inside that was never the intent of creation. Hence new principles evolve, or old ones long forgotten become more prominent when, oddly enough, that line of clarity that should be between real and artificial doesn't thin or thicken, it merely dissolves in a shroud with no absolution. That can be classified as genius, depending on your audience, of course.

Friend Request (2016): 8.4/10

Take the movie "Unfriended" and add way more shock value to it. Simple premise, but it undeniably lures you in and guts you out right when it wants to. Yes, it makes use of the tried and true recurring terror sequence with a mechanism that never ends, but hey, if it works, so what? Clocking in at 90 minutes allows it to retain that effect, even in the daytime. The careful shock value in this piece has got to be much worse at night.

Wall Street - Money Never Sleeps (2010): 8.0/10

A modernized follow-up that respects the elements of it's predecessor. Instead of the more exotic and taboo climate of buck-rushing that the original carried like a sexy drug, this one more or less figures out where it needs to shine a beacon in a world already diluted with more money than ever before. The difference is that it wants to shape out a moral and hearty construct alongside with the comforting thought of wealth in the financial universe, where the first one was exclusively about the hungry and cut-throat pursuit of wealth. In both cases, the reveal of Gekko's surprise side makes an effect in both drastic decade differences.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981): 10/10

A time capsule of old-fashioned filmmaking that manages to never loses it's shine. One of the best visual compositions of the 1980s that makes use of that old 1940s serial style composition, it mashes together a thoughtful, artistic and edgy-paced romp that fills itself quickly and effortlessly unfolds. You're left with a ton of subliminal symbolism long after it's done - things that you either immediately picked up on or were deep-provocative afterthought of what certain scene messages and centerpieces could draw a correlation to. If one so chooses to look that far into it, it wouldn't be too difficult of a task whatsoever. On the other hand, if you're simply just looking for a feel-good balanced classic action-family film - one that appeals to every age - then look no further, you've struck cinematic gold.

Eagle Eye (2008): 8.0/10

A fast-paced and clever action thriller with hand-over-hand intellect. Basic concept, yes, but the rapid and clever pace in which everything unfolds gives it that special sweet-spot in your collection of mystery, sci-fi action films that can appeal to nearly any generation. The tech isn't too fluffy or overtly slick to exclude those yearning for a more classic and simple drama with a tech backdrop, and also uses some older concepts from classic sci-fi cinema roots as an homage applicable to the modern era.

Flatliners (1990): 10/10

Harrowing, raw and classic thriller. Rich in wit, and aware of it's ease of horror with scientific blend of a less sophisticated nature, but with an approach of the utmost sophistication. Makes you think about what lines should or shouldn't be crossed, but the likelihood of redemption if you dare take the chance to see what's in the unknown. It makes the statement that discovery is for the bold and insane, but that's all subjective in the end since the true meaning of discovery lies within your own perspective and what it will take for your own conscious to settle as necessary.
