During the production of 'Poor Things', Director Yorgos Lanthimos wanted to evoke an Old Hollywood feel by using painted sets.

Most of the film was shot on soundstage, but the ballroom scene was shot on location.

OConnor turns 75.

OConnor fluid heads have long been the support of choice on many Academy Award-winning films, starting with Disney’s The Living Desert in 1953 and continuing through to the present day with Barbie and Oppenheimer. OConnor itself has received two Academy Awards for Scientific and Engineering achievement.

Founded in 1949 by Chadwell O’Connor, OConnor has a history of innovation, beginning with the development of the first fluid-damped camera head. O’Connor designed the fluid head to achieve smoother camera movements for filming steam trains, attracting the attention of fellow steam fanatic Walt Disney, and leading to a collaboration that established the company’s reputation.

To celebrate the 75th anniversary, we have released a new limited edition fluid head, the Platinum 2575E, which will be available to see at Cinegear in Los Angeles.

It's spooky season! 🎃🎬

Poltergeist's special effects and score were both nominated for Oscars but lost to Steven Spielberg's bigger film, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), in both categories.

Celebrating 100 years of Disney and a remarkable passion for storytelling.⁣
⁣
As we look back at a century of legendary characters, movies and tv shows, we’ve also been digging back into to our own history, because without Disney there may have been no OConnor.⁣
⁣
Our founder Chadwell (Chad) O’Connor had a very unique and life-changing meeting with Walt Disney. Chad had a life-long fascination with steam locomotives and tried his hand at photographing steam engines in motion, which led to his best-known invention.⁣
⁣
As he tried photographing moving trains, he became annoyed by the jerkiness of the pictures. To solve this problem he developed a silicon-filled platform that interfaced between the tripod and the camera to allow smooth panning and tilting of the camera. ⁣
He had invented the fluid-damped camera head, a technology still utilized by top-of-the-line camera support makers worldwide.⁣
⁣
But one day in 1952, while filming near Glendale California, another steam enthusiast tapped him on the shoulder and asked to look through the view finder. The man was so impressed that he asked if O’Connor could make more for him. O’Connor agreed but said it would take time as he built them in his garage. The man said, “But I need it right away. Oh, by the way, my name is Walt Disney.”⁣
⁣
Disney was then shooting one of his first nature studies, The Living Desert, and needed a way to shoot moving animals smoothly. The O’Connor head was so successful that Disney immediately ordered 10 more. This film won the first Academy Award for Documentary Feature and its success played a pivotal role in the birth of OConnor Engineering.
