From bold new voices to landmark works of Black cinema, the 32nd Black Harvest Film Festival presents nine narrative and documentary features exploring Black history, artistry, identity, and community across the diaspora.

This year's lineup includes several special presentations:

⭐ ONCE UPON A TIME IN HARLEM: A New York Times Critic’s Pick, William Greaves’s extraordinary documentary captures a legendary 1972 gathering of Harlem Renaissance luminaries. Followed by a Q&A with director David Greaves and producer Liani Greaves on November 9.

⭐ IF I GO WILL THEY MISS ME? Join us November 7 as we honor filmmaker Walter Thompson-Hernández with the 2026 Black Harvest Visionary Award, presented alongside his magical realist debut feature.

⭐ SOLOMON NORTHUP'S ODYSSEY: We close the festival November 15 with a new 4K restoration of Gordon Parks’s powerful historical drama, adapted from Northup’s landmark autobiography.

In the unruly, shape-shifting films of animator, comics artist, and sculptor Lilli Carré, bodies, lines, and even space refuse to stay put.

On Thursday, October 22, Carré returns to Chicago for a career-spanning program as part of our at the Edge series. Drawing on the elastic traditions of cartooning and experimental abstraction, her rebellious animations ignore commands, leak into their surroundings, and return the viewer's gaze.

A 2024 Guggenheim Fellow and SAIC alum (BFA 2006), Carré is also the co-founder, with Alexander Stewart, of , which returns to the Block Museum of Art this month.
