Recently I asked our volunteers to let me know why they volunteer here. I would like to share all the wonderful reasons and hope that it might inspire you to volunteer as well.
• "I volunteer because I want to support my community and I value the importance of maintaining our historical venues. "
• "I volunteer at the Egyptian theater because I like supporting the history of Coos Bay. But also, because of the friends I make and the good feeling of contributing to something that matters."
• "The Egyptian is such a loved Coos Bay landmark. I have my memories here and it's always great hearing other people's memories from all the fun The Egyptian Theatre has provided for over 100 years. It's fulfilling knowing I am doing something to help keep that going."
• "We love this beautiful, historic theater. It’s a community treasure. We volunteer because we want to see it thrive."
• "I've volunteered at the Egyptian for well over 10 years now. It's fun! You have great folks to work with. You make new friends and there's nothing better than the smile on the faces of people who come here for the first time and "oh" and "ah" over the theatre itself. At over 100 years old, she's pretty remarkable. You can work for about an hour, get paid in popcorn and soda and see the show for free. What's not to like? But best of all - it's fun! "
• "Best popcorn in town!"
• "I volunteer at the Egyptian Theater to help keep a historic site open to the public. I enjoyed going there when I first moved to Coos Bay in 2017 not realizing how it all came together and all the people involved. I found out most of the people involved were volunteers. It made sense to me that if I wanted to keep enjoying the theater, I should help out by volunteering. You can too!"
• "I enjoy volunteering at the Egyptian theater because I believe in keeping local, shared spaces alive. It’s a beautiful historic building, a great group of people who volunteer, and a place where the whole town can come together over a good show. It's rewarding to see people discover the theater for the first time, as well as those who have been coming for decades. Volunteering is fun, easy and works within my schedule.
• "" I saw the original Star Wars as a kid at the Egyptian in 1977. It was such a magical experience that I've never forgotten it. During the course of my life I've had many more wonderful experiences there and now that I'm older and have the time to volunteer there, it just brings back a lifetime of great memories. Being in that historic theatre makes me feel like a kid again."
• "I volunteer to get out of the house. I get a sense of belonging and contributing to my community by sharing the most valuable asset I have. My time. In return I get to work and laugh with others, possibly learn some new skills. I get a good feeling knowing that I’m on the team that keeps this jewel , the Egyptian Theater, open for all to enjoy. I almost forgot to mention the free movies, popcorn and refreshing cold sodas.

Our doors remain open because of our WONDERFUL volunteers. Thank you, to ALL our volunteers.

Many of you know that our theatre is run by an amazing team of volunteers. It truly takes a village to keep our doors open and continue bringing entertainment to our community!

Today, I want to give a special shout-out to our very own ETPA Vice President, Jeremy Conway!

Not only does Jeremy serve as our Vice President, but he has also recently created a brand-new website for our events! This website provides more detailed information about upcoming events, gives our volunteers an easy way to sign up to help, and makes my job so much easier. We are incredibly grateful for the time and effort he put into making this happen!

But that’s not all!

For those of you who have attended our concerts, you’ve likely seen the incredible light shows that accompany the performances. Once again, that’s Jeremy sharing his talent with us!

There is also so much behind-the-scenes work that goes into making each concert a success. From setting up the stage the day before, helping load in the bands’ equipment, and adjusting the projector to display band logos or videos, to communicating with other volunteers throughout the show to ensure the lighting runs smoothly, Jeremy is there every step of the way. And when the show is over, he’s right there helping with teardown, too. He never hesitates to step up and make sure everything is done right.

And when a volunteer unexpectedly can’t make it to help with a movie, Jeremy steps in to lend a hand there, too!

Jeremy, you do all of this while working a full-time job, running your own business, and making time for your beautiful wife. Your dedication, generosity, and willingness to jump in wherever you’re needed do not go unnoticed.

I truly cannot thank you enough for everything you do and for the time, talent, and heart you put into keeping our theatre alive and thriving.

Thank you so very much, Jeremy! We are incredibly lucky to have you as part of our theatre family!
