We very often get calls and messages asking if we are going to play certain movies. We welcome those questions! Here's a little insight into how we make the decisions on what to play.
First, we have a movie broker who helps to keep track of all the new movies being released. He works as a liaison between the Cinema and the movie studio to book movies for us.
Some movies we just can't get it. To advertise a Nation Wide release, a movie has to be available to about 1,800 screens. As a twin, we need the movie to release to about 3,600 screens! So you can see that even if a movie release is "nation wide" it doesn't mean everyone can show it.
There are exceptions...sometimes a studio actually requests for us to play their movie even if it isn't a wide release! This is because we have a very large following for the religious genre of movies! The bigger the crowds for movies, the more likely we get to play them.
Speaking of genres...there are some genres that just don't play well for us. We know it's disappointing for some of you, but over the past 8 years, we've tried several Horror movies, and people just don't come. This is the same for sensually explicit rated R movies. It's not that we won't ever play these movies, but historically, audiences just don't show up for them.
The last BIG factor is timing...We would love to show every blockbuster that comes along, but unfortunately, we just can't. With 2 screens, we can generally only play 2 movies at a time, so that does limit our options. You'll see there are some times of the year when there are just too many movies releasing and not enough time for us to play them. Sometimes, we can squeeze a movie in for a week after it's been out to give you more options. More often then not though, we just have to miss out on a good movie.
Hopefully this helps you understand a bit of what we go through to develop our calendar for upcoming movies. Please keep asking...sometimes we do move things around because of requests from the public!
See you at the Cinema!
