The Strand officially unveiled its new west-facing mural on the side of its building during the First Friday event held Sept. 4.
The mural, which is titled “The House Beautiful” and was designed and painted by Ohio Wesleyan graduate Nick Stull, features a child with a bucket of popcorn and the year 1916, which is the year The Strand opened. The design also includes large references to classic films like “Jaws,” “2001: A Space Odyssey” and “The Wizard of Oz.” The mural also features a film reel with many nods to other iconic films.
“Hopefully, this is the first of many murals in our downtown,” said Tom Homan, who is one of the organizers of the Arts Alliance of Delaware County and a member of the Strand Mural Committee. “It celebrates cinema and the wonder and art of cinema that’s been happening here at the Strand since 1916.”
