Second Screen Cult Cinema

Second Screen Cult Cinema Tampa Bay's longest-running monthly movie series. Unconventional and unforgettable cult films. Third Thursdays | Green Light Cinema | St. Pete

Launched in Feb. 2015 as a non-profit group by a collective of friends and film aficionados entrenched in the local arts scene, Second Screen Cult Cinema is an award-winning, curated monthly film series in the Tampa Bay area that has been presenting unconventional and unforgettable cult films geared towards adult movie-goers (18+) looking for a refreshingly unique cinematic experience. Though its

monthly in-person screening events are currently on hiatus to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, Second Screen recently launched an entertaining podcast series, which is currently available on iTunes, Spotify, and Podbean. Grab a drink and join film curators Ann-Eliza Musoke Taylor, Michael Martz, and Tyler Martinolich every second Thursday of the month for a deep dive into the glorious technicolor world of cult cinema.

๐’๐„๐๐“. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ•: Weโ€™re officially steering into spooky season, and weโ€™re kicking things off with an underrated gem that helped set the stage for the Japanese horror explosion of the late 1990s: ๐‚๐”๐‘๐„.

A hypnotic, slow-burn descent into psychological horror, ๐˜Š๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ follows Tokyo detective Kenichi Takabe (Kลji Yakusho) as he investigates a series of seemingly unrelated murders connected by one impossible detail: each killer has no clear explanation for why they did it.

Directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, this landmark cult classic transforms a police procedural into something far more unsettling, building an atmosphere of creeping dread around memory, identity, suggestion, and the terrifying possibility that violence may already be lurking just beneath the surface.

Released the same year as ๐˜™๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ๐˜ถ, Kurosawaโ€™s hypnotic nightmare takes a quieter, stranger, and far more unsettling path โ€” and nearly 30 years later, weโ€™d argue it remains the finest entry to emerge from the J-horror era.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Beer/wine/concessions are available in Green Lightโ€™s lobby; you can also grab dinner next door at Green Light Lounge + Kitchen! Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the box office or the link below or in our bio.

Our Third Thursday screening events tend to sell out, so reserve your seats now!

๐€๐”๐†. ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ: Paris has been photographed a million ways. ๐€๐Œ๐„ฬ๐‹๐ˆ๐„ decided that wasnโ€™t nearly enough.

Jean-Pierre Jeunet transforms Montmartre into a heightened, candy-colored dreamscape of cafรฉs, cobblestone streets, tiny apartments, mysterious strangers, and impossibly photogenic moments. Through super-saturated color, whimsical camera movements, visual gags, and playful compositions, the city becomes less a location than a character in its own right.

Itโ€™s the Paris you might imagine after drinking way too much espresso, falling in love, and deciding reality could use a little more magic.

There are still a few seats left for our screening THIS THURSDAY at , so grab โ€˜em at the link at our bio before theyโ€™re gone.

Donโ€™t miss your only chance to catch the 25th anniversary of ๐€๐Œ๐„ฬ๐‹๐ˆ๐„ on the screen! Jean-Pierre Jeunetโ€™s cult charmer is the kind of film that feels even more magical when experienced with a crowd.

๐€๐”๐†. ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ: Some movies make you want to change your life. ๐€๐Œ๐„ฬ๐‹๐ˆ๐„ makes you want to pay closer attention to it.

Jean-Pierre Jeunetโ€™s endlessly charming 2001 classic finds magic in the smallest things: skipping stones, cracking crรจme brรปlรฉe, returning a lost toy, overhearing a strangerโ€™s conversation, or simply watching the world go by.

Amรฉlie Poulain spends her days quietly improving the lives of the people around her, one tiny act of kindness at a time. And while her elaborate schemes donโ€™t always go according to plan, the filmโ€™s central idea remains wonderfully simple: happiness isnโ€™t always hiding somewhere far away; sometimes itโ€™s sitting right in front of you.

Twenty-five years later, Amรฉlie remains a joyful reminder to look for it.
Watch it with us at NEXT THURSDAY, Aug. 20! Reserve your seats at the ticket link in our bio.
