You know what's worse than spending all winter picking the perfect stallion?

Getting to breeding season and realizing you never made a plan for the MARE. 😂

Everybody gets excited about pedigrees, stud fees, and pretty baby pictures, but getting that mare ready is just as important as choosing who she's going to.

At Dry Creek Quarter Horses & Reproduction, we offer mare management, cooled and frozen semen breeding, embryo services, and foaling care right here in Dry Creek, Louisiana.

And you don't have to use one of our Regional Stallion Access Program stallions to breed with us!

If you've already picked your 2027 stallion, now's a good time to start planning the rest.

Our 2027 breeding calendar is taking shape, so message us to discuss getting your mare on the schedule.

Because the goal isn't just picking a pretty stallion. It's getting a healthy foal on the ground.

Alright, mare owners. Let's play a little game. 😂

You've got a mare standing in your pasture, a 2027 foal on your mind, and SIXTEEN stallions in the Regional Stallion Access Program to consider.

But here's the catch...

You can only pick THREE to put on your shortlist.

Are you going for cow horse bloodlines? Roping prospects? Ranch versatility? Pleasure breeding? Or are you secretly hoping for a little extra chrome? 👀

I want to know which THREE boys are catching your eye and WHY!

And if you haven't looked through our lineup yet, this is your excuse to go shopping without actually spending any money. 😂

Drop your top three in the comments!

Elite Genetics. Regional Access. Local Expertise.

FERAL FRIDAY: AFTER DARK 😂

I need to know who else has a horse that acts like they've been personally victimized every single day of their life.

Fresh water? Suspicious.

Expensive feed? Absolutely disgusting.

A perfectly good hay bale? No thanks, I'll eat the fence.

A $300 blanket? Excellent, let me destroy that in 14 minutes.

But let one rusty piece of farm equipment sit in the pasture for 30 seconds and suddenly it's a FIVE STAR BUFFET.

And somehow, we're the ones paying all the bills. 💀

What's the most ridiculous thing your horse has ever done that made you question why you own horses in the first place?

I want stories. The more unhinged, the better. 😂

FERAL FRIDAY 🔥

Horse breeding math is my favorite kind of math because apparently none of the normal rules apply.

$1,500 stud fee?

“Absolutely not. That is WAY too expensive.”

But then we find a $750 stallion three states away, pay collection fees, shipping, repro fees, board, another shipment because somebody decided not to ovulate, another collection because FedEx sent the first box on a sightseeing tour of America...

And suddenly we've spent $2,400 saving ourselves $750.

✨ FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY ✨

Listen, I am ALL ABOUT keeping breeding affordable. Half the reason I do what I do is because I don't think breeding a good mare should require taking out a second mortgage.

But CHEAPER doesn't always mean LESS EXPENSIVE.

When you're comparing stallions, look at the whole breeding.

What does the stud fee include? What are the collection fees? What does shipping cost? Is there a chute fee? What happens if you need another shipment? Is there a live foal guarantee? Is frozen semen available? What does the contract actually say?

A $1,500 breeding with reasonable fees can very easily cost less than a $750 breeding with fees stacked on top of fees stacked on top of MORE fees.

So absolutely have a breeding budget.

Just make sure you're doing horse math with ALL the numbers.

Because horses are already exceptionally talented at separating us from our money.

We really don't need to help them.

Happy Feral Friday. 🔥
