When "Gone with the Wind" opened at the Family Theater in Hazard on April 28, 1940, the lines were long and the price of admission wasn't cheap.

Nighttime showings cost $1.20 – equivalent to about $28.30 today. Regular tickets were usually around a quarter, so this was a splurge.

Back then, gas was 10¢ a gallon so $1.20 was a pricey ticket.

The Family Theater offered matinee showings of the movie at 75 cents, the same as $17.69 today.

The hype was real – even in Hazard, where Huff's Beauty Shop offered "Gone with the Wind" hairdos. Girls were flocking to get "The Scarlett" coiffure, channeling Vivien Leigh's iconic look.

For all you movie buffs who've spent countless hours at the Family Theater in Hazard in the past, imagine this: you were sitting in the same seats that witnessed the Hazard premiere of Gone with the Wind on April 28, 1940. Talk about nostalgia!
