Watching it as Nolan intended…
I promised during last Friday’s FB Live that I would give a full review after I watched “The Odyssey”, and I finally watched it last night. Guys, I’m not kidding you, it’s absolutely a masterpiece. I can’t stop thinking about it today and the cinematic achievement that Christopher Nolan has accomplished with this magisterial work of art. If cinema has a heartbeat, “The Odyssey” is the thunder that makes it skip. This isn’t merely a film—it is a celestial event, a lightning bolt hurled from Mount Olympus that lands squarely in your soul. And Matt Damon as Odysseus? Perfect casting. There were moments during some fight scenes that made me long for another Jason Bourne movie, but I digress. Christopher Nolan filmed this movie using 15 perf 70mm IMAX film, which is the ultimate way to enjoy it. Unfortunately there are only 20+ theatres in the U.S. that can show the movie in that specific format and they’re all sold out until like September. I personally enjoyed it last night with good friends and complete strangers in a dark, packed theatre with extremely comfortable chairs and big sound which in the end is ultimately how Nolan intended this movie to be seen. A+, 10 out of 10, two thumbs way up. Shows each evening at 6:30, with matinees Saturday & Sunday at 3:00!
*If you truly want the IMAX experience, you’re in luck! When you get to the Grand, walk into the LIVE side and grab a removable chair from the back. Then, walk over to the cinema side, park that puppy right in front of the screen and BAM!! IMAX.
