Growing up, my absolute favorite thing in the world and something I looked forward to every single week, were Saturday morning cartoons. It was a national pastime for kids all across the country and possibly even more American than the 4th of July (well, not really, but you get the point). Waking up early on Saturday mornings, grabbing a bowl of cereal (often times at least one of your parents was asleep, usually both) and sitting down literally two feet away from the box tv, preparing for 3 hours of uninterrupted, animated bliss. Every kid knew the rules, too. You didn’t call your friends or ride your bike to your friends house until the live action animal documentary stuff came on. Throughout the years, the cartoons and shows varied, often lasting no more than a couple seasons, but there was one constant that always remained…. Looney Tunes re-runs. They were usually on before the newer cartoons, and if you woke up early enough, you could catch all the classic episodes featuring Bugs, Daffy, Porky Pig, Wile E Coyote (trying ever so hard yet always failing to catch Road Runner) Taz and the list goes on… They were the titans and gold standard of all cartoons. We recently introduced Stella to “Merry Melodies”, and she fell in love with them just as we had when were kids, and our parents had when they were kids. The characters are timeless, and I’m happy to report that an all new Looney Tunes movie opens at our theatres this Friday. Daffy Duck and Porky Pig in “The Day The Earth Blew Up”- Early reviews of this movie are nearly perfect on Rotten Tomatoes (97% fresh as of this post!).. which just goes to show, the classics are classic for a reason. They just don’t make ‘em like they used to… until they do! Bestmoviedeal.com for tickets and showtimes. Hope to see you there!
