Growing up, my absolute favorite thing in the world and something I looked forward to every single week, were Saturday morning cartoons. It was a national pastime for kids all across the country and possibly even more American than the 4th of July (well, not really, but you get the point). Waking up early on Saturday mornings, grabbing a bowl of cereal (often times at least one of your parents was asleep, usually both) and sitting down literally two feet away from the box tv, preparing for 3 hours of uninterrupted, animated bliss. Every kid knew the rules, too. You didn’t call your friends or ride your bike to your friends house until the live action animal documentary stuff came on. Throughout the years, the cartoons and shows varied, often lasting no more than a couple seasons, but there was one constant that always remained…. Looney Tunes re-runs. They were usually on before the newer cartoons, and if you woke up early enough, you could catch all the classic episodes featuring Bugs, Daffy, Porky Pig, Wile E Coyote (trying ever so hard yet always failing to catch Road Runner) Taz and the list goes on… They were the titans and gold standard of all cartoons. We recently introduced Stella to “Merry Melodies”, and she fell in love with them just as we had when were kids, and our parents had when they were kids. The characters are timeless, and I’m happy to report that an all new Looney Tunes movie opens at our theatres this Friday. Daffy Duck and Porky Pig in “The Day The Earth Blew Up”- Early reviews of this movie are nearly perfect on Rotten Tomatoes (97% fresh as of this post!).. which just goes to show, the classics are classic for a reason. They just don’t make ‘em like they used to… until they do! Bestmoviedeal.com for tickets and showtimes. Hope to see you there!

Through a Glass, Darkly: A Night of Stories, Poems and Songs
OPEN CALL FOR STORYTELLERS!

On December 14th, the Grand Theater in Hillsboro, Illinois will be hosting Through a Glass Darkly: A Night of Stories, Poems and Songs led and directed by Jonathan Weyer, local writer and poet.

He’s putting out an open call for storytellers, poets, and singers to audition on October 2nd at 7:00 PM to be in the show.

What are the guidelines?

Pieces must be a short story, poem or song. However, there can be no props or musical instruments. This is all about the human voice.
Pieces must be some sort of meditation on the words, “Through a Glass, Darkly” which means to see truth through the distorted lens of our worldviews. It can be something you’ve previously written or you can write something original.
The piece you enter must be original to you. It cannot be someone else’s work. However, it can be a tale from your families’ history or the place you live.
The audition must be five minutes. If you are accepted, the piece for the show could be longer.
Remember that all pieces must be “Public Radio Friendly” for a possible mixed age crowd.
All copyrights belong to the artist, but this show will be taped for later possible use on a podcast. If you agree to be in the show, you agree for your piece to appear on this podcast.

If all that sounds great, then come on October 2nd at 7:00 PM. If you’re interested, please email Jonathan at [email protected] to find out your time slot.

We can’t wait to hear your story…

The last time we had to use the main house for a comedian was in December when we brought in Jimmy JJ Walker. Friday night we again will have a nationally known comedian when we host Fred Klett. With over 80 million internet views and featured on Drybar comedy, Fred will shake the walls with laughter.
This show is important to me because I need to see if we can support clean comedy that anybody can watch.

Come out Friday night at 7 pm to the Orpheum and help us welcome Fred with good old Hillsboro hospitality

The Stifftones

Read the bio they sent me and you will see why we are excited to bring unique acts to the area!

We are music. A real rock n roll devival. Do you like American music? We love American music. The Stifftones are real life traveling bards. We are Shaun and Rachel Stief, two middle aged empty nesters who have run away and joined the circus. Rachel was a registered nurse for 20 years and together, helped raise 5 daughters. Once the kids moved out and the world changed, we decided it was time for a change for us as well. Being Gen X'ers who grew up on Sesame Street, nuclear drills, and Saturday Night live inspired by our youths, we gave away everything we owned, bought a hearse, loaded up the dogs and decided to put the American dream to the test. For the last 4+ years we have been living and touring the country in our 1996 Cadillac Hearse we named Tania, criss-crossing the country for over 100,000 miles performing hundreds of shows in almost as many cities. We have been from coast to coast, north to south, developing our sound, building our brand, and growing our family along the way. We smell of the wind, dust, sun, and moon bringing our stories and gypsy's warnings to life through the magic of music.

Yea, this is real! The biggest event to hit Pana in a long time.

Last year we hosted this traveling group at our theatre in Hillsboro and we sold out the theatre fast. The actors interact with the crowd and you will remember this night for a long time. Your ticket will include a prop bag with appropriate items to play along with the movie. Tickets just went up for sale today at our website
With such a large theatre, we would advise advance tickets so we don't have to try to get hundreds of people in at the last minute.
