Described by Birth.Movies.Death as “The bastard offspring of an entire drive-in era”, NIGHT OF THE COMET follows “Valley girl” sisters who find themselves alone after Halley’s Comet destroys their wealthy community—and most of Los Angeles Their post-apocalyptic shopping spree is disturbed by predatory zombies, as well as an ill-intentioned scientific cabal (led by Mary Woronov and Geoffrey Lewis).
Post-screening conversation by University of Iowa graduate panelists Celeste Howington and Ariana Martinez will explore how the film relates to the horror genre, the ‘camp’ elements, its place as a touchstone for the 1980s, and its depiction of apocalypse.
