TONIGHT @ 6:30! “With the season of scares right around the corner, this month Magnetic Magic is loading the VCR with a shlocky spookfest from low-budget maestro Joe Castro. Analog Sunday presents a twisted tale of familial afterlife cannibalism: Near Death!

“A random investigation leads to a horrifying discover of murder and cannibalism when a team of ghosthunters enter the haunted home of famed director Willi von Brahm. There to unravel tales of the director’s murderous ghost still haunting the estate, the team is unprepared for the lost souls of the undead who walk the halls, looking for the flesh of the living to satisfy their hunger. Now face to face with the bloody killers, the hunters must fight eternal enslavement, or become their next meal.”

Hosted by Elijah of Magnetic Magic Rentals. Party kicks off at 6:30PM with a VHS Swap n’ Shop, followed by a Preshow Mixtape, Giveaways and the Feature Presentation at 7PM!”

"This is the best version of A STAR IS BORN" - someone named Liz, Letterboxd

Next Friday, 9/11 @ 7pm!

To celebrate it's 25th anniversary. We're screening Mariah Carey’s magnum opus GLITTER, a kind-of-but-not-quite auto-biopic about a young singer navigating the vicious terrains of love and music in 80s NYC.

Most well known for it's unfortunate release date, GLITTER is an earnestly cheesy Y2K (despite it's 80s setting) take on the STAR IS BORN archtype. With oscar-worthy performances from both Da Brat AND Padma Lakshmi, a knock-off Mark Wahlberg love interest, and earth-shattering operatics from Mariah, you will not want to miss this film event of a lifetime.

Video intro from renowned Mariah Carey scholar/former Stray Cat Programmer Cass!

YOU ONLY GET ONE SHOT AT FAME!

One of the most controversial independent films of the 1990s, I Shot Andy Warhol stars an electric Lili Taylor as Valerie Solanas, a militant feminist whose attempted murder of Andy Warhol brought instant fame to her radically anti-male SCUM Manifesto. Dropping out of grad school in the midsixties, the brilliant yet volatile Solanas survived in New York City as a destitute artist, s*x worker, and panhandler, soon striking up a friendship with Warhol superstar Candy Darling that brought her briefly into the orbit of the world’s premier pop artist. Featuring a blistering score by John Cale as well as covers of sixties hits by some of the nineties’ most iconic bands (R.E.M., Wilco).

Newly restored and rescued from years of legal limbo!

Screening as part of our Get Punk’d series next Thursday, September 10 at 7pm! Get tickets at straycatfilmcenter.com or at the link in our bio.

One down. Three more to Go!

Thanks to everyone that came out to kick off our month of Mexican Gothic with THE PHANTOM OF THE MONASTERY! We’ll be back next Wednesday with more gothic horror as we screen THE BLACK PIT OF DR. M!

From Fernando Mendez, director of what is probably Mexico’s most famous gothic, 1957’s El Vampiro, comes this Edgar Allan Poe-inflected tale whose Spanish-language title more closely translates to “Mysteries from Beyond the Grave.”

When two doctors make a pact that the first one who dies will find a way to bring the survivor across to the “”other side,”” it sets into motion an EC Comics style tragedy that reminds us to be careful what we wish for in this atmospheric gem filled with torchlit funeral processions, mist-shrouded courtyards, horribly burned faces, and much more.

Weds, 9/2 @ 7pm, We're teaming with Orrin Grey to kick off our September series, MEXICAN GOTHIC with 1934s moody classic THE PHANTOM OF THE MONASTERY (El fantasma del convento)!

In 1930, working at night, on the same sets that Tod Browning, Bela Lugosi, et al were using during the day, Mexican actors famously made a Spanish-language version of DRACULA. Within a few years, Mexico's burgeoning film industry was turning out gothic horror pictures of its own, and THE PHANTOM OF THE MONASTERY was one of the first, an eerie, poetic concoction full of Expressionist shadows and haunting images, including a room full of real mummies - mummies that can still be visited today at the Museo de El Carmen, if you happen to be planning a trip to Mexico City

Lost in the forest, a trio of hikers enmeshed in an adulterous love triangle take refuge in a strange monastery that seems frozen in time. As bizarre portents—a bat-shaped shadow without a source, a door sealed by a crucifix, a cellar full of coffins—accumulate, they begin to fear that the place is haunted.
