Formerly owned by Keresotes, and then AMC, The Plaza 3 Cinema has been an entertainment staple in Keokuk, IA for years. In November of 2010, AMC Theatres ended their lease with River City Mall and it seemed as though the Plaza was done for good. However, the same week the theatre closed, Jeff Eisentraut of Hillsboro, IL came into contact with former mall owner Shannon Zetterlund and expressed inte
rest in operating the Plaza. After a trip to Keokuk, the Eisentraut family, former residents of Fort Madison, IA, agreed that the Plaza was a perfect fit and signed a lease to operate the theatre. The Plaza doors had only closed for two weeks before it was up and running again. A year and a half later, the Plaza is seeing attendance numbers unlike any in the past decade. The Eisentrauts incorporated their "Best Movie Deal" to the Plaza operation ($7 gets you admission, popcorn, and a soda), and it has been met with tremendous response with people driving from as far away as Burlington, IA and Quincy, IL to save money and see a movie with the whole family. The Eisentrauts look forward to continuing the Plaza's success by adding digital projection and stereo in the near future. The Eisentrauts are also known for their personal introductions to movies shown at the theatre, a seemingly lost art in the modern age of multi-plexes.
