Sexism. It’s all sexism. Hollywood routinely treated women’s creative labor as support work, especially when the woman was also the director’s wife. In this case, Polly Platt. She helped shape Peter Bogdanovich’s best films (The Last Picture Show, What’s Up, Doc?, and Paper Moon), but film history remembers her as Bogdanovich’s abandoned wife. Her official credits should have matched the extent of her influence and this post is for her.
