Changeover Assembly honors the life and legacy of Robert Duvall. A titan of American cinema whose quiet intensity and unshakable presence defined generations of film.

From the steady, calculating Tom Hagen in The Godfather to the unforgettable Lt. Col. Kilgore in Apocalypse Now, and his Academy Award–winning performance in Tender Mercies, Duvall embodied characters with grit, complexity, and humanity. He didn’t just act, he inhabited.

His work shaped the language of modern film. His restraint was power. His subtlety was command.
Rest in peace to a true master of the craft. 🎬

BLACK HISTORY MONTH: BLACK CINEMA CHANGED EVERYTHING.

Film as we know it does not exist without Black artists.

From Oscar Micheaux building an independent Black film industry when Hollywood shut its doors, to Julie Dash reclaiming history and memory in Daughters of the Dust, to Gordon Parks turning the camera into a tool of truth and confrontationβ€”Black filmmakers have always shaped the language of cinema.

That legacy is not past tense.

The success of Sinners is a reminder of what happens when Black filmmakers are given space to tell bold, uncompromising storiesβ€”and when audiences show up for them in force. It’s proof that Black-led films are not a risk, not a niche, and not a trend. They are cultural events.

Horror, noir, romance, documentary, experimental filmβ€”Black artists have expanded every genre, often without institutional support, and still changed the medium anyway. From Charles Burnett and Kathleen Collins to Spike Lee, Kasi Lemmons, Ava DuVernay, Barry Jenkins, Jordan Peele, and so many more, Black cinema continues to redefine what film can be.

The Changeover Assembly honors Black cinema not as a sidebar or a single month, but as a foundation. A living, evolving lineage of vision, resistance, imagination, and brilliance.

Black history is film history.

Black cinema is American cinema.

And it deserves to be centeredβ€”always.

Today, we say goodbye to the incomparable Catherine O’Hara. A comic genius, a master of the absurd, and the heart of some of the most beloved films in history. She didn't just play characters; she gifted them a soul, a unique vocabulary, and a permanent place in our hearts.
