Coming soon to the Prairie Pride Film Festival, BLACK LIVES / BLACK LUNGS highlights the decades-long predatory advertising tactics of Big To***co toward Black communities, an issue similarly faced by the LGBTQ+ community.

📽️ Oct 17 @ 4 PM: The Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center
🎟️ Oct 19 @ 2 PM: Hastings College Theatre

The idea for BLACK LIVES / BLACK LUNGS came to director Lincoln Mondy when he noticed the overwhelming use of menthol ci******es among his Black family members. Mondy came to realize his family’s smoking habits weren’t just a coincidence– menthol ci******es are easier to smoke and harder to quit, and to***co companies target Black consumers in their ads.

As part of our shared mission to promote to***co cessation and prevention education, To***co Free Lancaster County and OutNebraska are proud to bring BLACK LIVES / BLACK LUNGS to the Prairie Pride Film Festival. This documentary short will accompany feature film THE QUEEN OF MY DREAMS in Lincoln and Hastings.

🍿 Oct 20 @ 12:30 PM: Alamo Drafthouse Omaha

A HOUSE IS NOT A DISCO poses the question: what if you really did put all the g**s on one island? In this portrait of q***r paradise, past and present blur as the iconic beach town, Fire Island Pines, bands together to celebrate its legacy and redefine itself for a new, more inclusive era.

With cinematography like a Frederick Wiseman movie on magic mushrooms, a large cast of unforgettable eccentrics, activists, drifters, and first timers reflect on the legacy of the Pines while preparing their beloved village for the biggest challenge it has faced since the AIDS crisis—rising seas caused by climate change.

After Rep. Zooey Zephyr declared that those voting in favor of Montana’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors would have blood on their hands, she was blocked by conservative lawmakers from speaking on any bills.

Turning a tough situation into a moment, Zephyr made a nearby bench her “office.” In SEAT 31, Kimberly Reed’s cameras land next to Zooey, capturing shocking, funny, and joyous events as the lawmaker fights for not only the rights of her 11,000 constituents, but the precedent of trans legislation as a whole.

SEAT 31 accompanies feature film THIS TIME from director Robert Vaughn in our festival lineup.
