How is precision medicine reshaping transplant outcomes?

In our latest blog, Alexander “Sasha” Vlassov (Director, R&D, Thermo Fisher Scientific) weighs in on the evolution of post-transplant management. He explores how leveraging advances in immune monitoring and molecular diagnostics allows the community to move away from uniform protocols and toward truly individualized therapeutic strategies.

How is your institution approaching patient-specific immune responses today? Read Sasha's full perspective and share your thoughts below: https://www.thermofisher.com/blog/clinical-conversations/from-one-size-fits-all-to-precision-care-personalizing-therapy-in-transplantation/?cid=0so_fbk_26052026_L07CYH

👋 Meet the Team: Introducing Our Technical Training Experts
This week, we’re excited to spotlight:
James Jones, MSc, BSHI Dip
Senior Technical Training Specialist – Antibody
20 years in HLA

James brings two decades of HLA experience and a passion for collaborative learning, helping laboratories strengthen both workflow efficiency and data analysis skills through hands-on education.

“HLA is important to me because the work we do can truly change lives. Even though we may not meet patients face-to-face, we follow their stories through their samples and outcomes, creating a meaningful connection to our work. It’s also a field that is constantly evolving, with endless opportunities to learn and collaborate.”

Thinking about joining a technical workshop this year?
Here’s James’ perspective:
• Gain hands-on experience with workflows and guided data analysis
• Learn practical approaches to troubleshooting common challenges
• Discover new ideas to improve efficiency and accuracy in your lab

Explore upcoming workshops with James and join us for an interactive learning experience designed for HLA professionals.

AI's role in transplant diagnostics continues to evolve, and its adoption in this field is often more measured due to regulatory, clinical and validation requirements. Tina Liedtky, our president of transplant diagnostics, explores why in her latest article published in MedCity News.

Tina explains that models, workflows, and outputs are typically validated, documented and implemented with appropriate safeguards before being integrated into clinical care. From detecting patterns in complex data to supporting diagnostic workflows, AI has the potential to contribute to improvements in efficiency in transplant medicine. AI may offer meaningful benefits in future transplant diagnostics; however, when patient lives are involved, careful evaluation and implementation are essential.
The future of more personalized transplant care depends on getting this right.

Read Tina's full article here: https://medcitynews.com/2026/05/ai-in-transplant-diagnostics-turning-complexity-into-clinical-clarity/

The strongest AI adoption plans follow a simple pattern: start small, validate and scale only when results hold up across sites, shifts and real-world variation. The goal is safer, more personalized care, which is made possible by clinicians receiving earlier signals, better-tailored monitoring and....

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the 32nd Congress of the Scandinavian Transplantation Society last week!

With inspiring keynote speakers, thought-provoking symposia, and cutting-edge research presentations, the scientific programme provided a strong platform for learning, discussion, and collaboration across the Nordic transplant community.

On June 15, 2021, Deanna Bohlen received the kidney transplant that saved her life. Her cousin, Michelle Anderson, was the donor. What could have been defined by uncertainty became a story of steadfast trust, family, and a second chance. Since her transplant, Deanna says her labs have never wavered, a reminder of the impact organ donation can have long after surgery is over.

For Michelle, donating a kidney was not just an act of generosity; it was a way to give someone she loved the opportunity to continue living life fully.

Transplant stories are about more than procedures and recovery. They are about the people who step forward, the families who stand together, and the hope made possible through donation. Others like Deanna are counting on you.
