Cazenovia Pride takes over Manlius Cinema for a Pride Month movie night unlike anything Central New York has seen, a live, in-character drag commentary screening of the 1995 cult classic To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, with running commentary from drag superstar Anita Buffem, the first drag queen elected in the United States. This isn't your average movie night. It's heels, hecklers (the affectionate kind), and an NYC drag legend back in their hometown talking back to the screen. Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze, and John Leguizamo as three New York City drag queens on a cross-country road trip and Anita Buffem giving you the live, unfiltered commentary track the DVD never had. A benefit for Caz Pride and hosted by Michelle and Anne of LezBeinSyracuse. Before the feature, we're pulling two shorts from the Anita Buffem video vault - vintage performances and rarely-seen footage from nearly two decades on the NYC scene, screened for the first time on the big screen at Manlius Cinema. That farmers’ uprising 200 years ago changed the course of American history and paved the way to the creation of Abraham Lincoln’s Republican Party. Today, although largely forgotten, the historic uprising lives on through direct descendants of those rebellious farmers, through their stories, songs, and the eerie costumes preserved since the 1840s. "After the Wizard" is a heartfelt, often humorous and always entertaining story about a 12-year-old girl named Elizabeth who lives in an orphanage in Kingman, Kansas. Like millions of girls her age she has read the beloved L. Frank Baum novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" countless times. But unlike other girls, Elizabeth believes she is Dorothy...and maybe she is. With Elizabeth referring to herself as Dorothy and constantly looking for Toto and a way back to Oz, the headmistress at the orphanage worries about Elizabeth and fears that she is losing touch with reality.Meanwhile back in Oz things have not gone well for the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman or the Lion. Oz is in trouble and they believe Dorothy is the one person who can help save their home, just as she did before. Only this time they have to find her.
